Ascheberg ctd

Post by pesta38 »

Description:

After going from another map to Ascheberg, parts of the map are glitched and moving in viewing distance of those parts will freeze frame, then crash the game. After some testing the crash only occurs if the previous map was 2km or bigger, 1km map only goes as far as to freeze frame, which can be "fixed" by alt-tabing. During the frame freeze the game can still be interacted with and the cursor will still show up when it should.

Steps to Reproduce:

Load any map 2km or bigger, then load Ascheberg (only tested on AAS std but i remeber encountering this on lrg aswell) and move in view distance of a glitched part (usually the area surrounding the first cappable flag.)

Screenshots / Video:

These have been taken after a 1km map, same thing occurs after bigger maps followed by a CTD:

Have you had this issue on any other map?

Great report!

I was thinking of making a post as well but this probably is more informative.
Just thought I add to this anyway I have played it twice now and both times multiple people in my squad crashed out of this specific map more than once. While they normally don't as far as I have experienced. Not saying I know for a fact the map is the issue but I certainly have the strong suspicion that is the case.

I crashed both times while loading this map after playing another map with a memory.dll error, then loads fine after restarting the game and rejoining the server.

In the 4 years of me playing this game this is the first time I encountered this issue and it only occurs on this map. I managed to get some performance logs and a crash dump since making the post: very long google drive link

I'll also add the link to the original post for ease of access.

Thanks for the dump. Did that crash happen when you were creating a screenshot?

Yes, unfortunately I only managed to get as far as the frame freeze today but during that a screenshot triggers the crash. Will try again later today to get a crashdump without the screenshot.

Even when you do it on empty server or playing local?

Haven't tried that yet.

I crashed to desktop in the middle of the round on this map yesterday as well.

Never have any issues on any other map, it seems to really like to eat up all the 4GB of RAM that PR can allocate and then crash.

New crash dump on the same google drive link. Still not quite a good one as procdump was ran after the error message appeared.

Edit: finally managed to get a good crashdump, straight from loading screen.

Thanks. Could you try to do a full memory dump? For that use -ma instead -mm. It will be big, couple of GB so uploading might become an issue

Adding to this thread.

Got a memory.dll crash on loading Acheberg after playing Shijia Valley on HOG.

Would frequently crash to desktop while playing. Was able to capture one error screen after crashing:

Thanks! Some questions:
  • How do you reproduce the crashes?
  • Does it happen in local or on dedicated?
  • Does it happen when you load the map as first map or only when switching from another?
  • At what % in loading screen do you crash?

[1] Since creating the thread I've had the bug multiple times but i struggled to find a consistent way to recreate the crash. I found it's much more likely to crash on dedicated so I just kept procdump running and hoped for the "best" xD.

[2] The visual bug happens on both local and online, however the crash is much more likely to appear on dedicated. Frame-freeze symptom always shows up on both local and dedicated, the "big rectangle" bug shows up around 7-8/10 of the cases. The crash itself seems to be rarer than i initially thought, only around 1-2/10 times on local and 3-4/10 times on dedicated. Do keep in mind that i just pulled these numbers out of my ***, they only represent a rough idea of the frequency of said bugs perceived by me.

[3] It only happens if a previous map was loaded before. It works flawlessly if Ascheberg is the first map to be loaded in a session.

[4] That changes wildly. I had one right at the start of the loading screen, I had one right at the end but the most crashes i had were around 5-10 minutes into the game when I was using UAV and the glitched part of the map came into view. But then again, i had one where i loaded in, waited a few minutes (i skip loading screens by going for a cig) and crashed without ever spawning into the game :/

Tried twice on a different PC on local server, haven't encountered any of the glitches mentioned, specs below. I probably won't be able to test/respond until the weekend as I'm at my cousin's.

Small update on how it is going: We think the issue is coming from the terrain of the map. That alone takes up almost as much memory as other maps. However we have no idea why this is the case. There is nothing special on the map going on.

Huh, that's weird given that it's quite possibly the flattest map in the game. The only difference I noticed compared to other 4k maps is that the off-map airfield doesn't have a designated spawnpoint.

Also, I encountered a new sympton: If Ascheberg gets loaded and the game doesnt crash the frame freeze bug gets carried over to the next map regardless if its the same server or not. Happened to me after loading the map on an online server, disconnecting then going on another server which had Khamisiyah.

Still getting crashes in v1.7.2.4

Memory error on loading it after playing another round, and then getting crashes to desktop after 5-10min of gameplay.
