Hi everyone. I just came back to PR after like 2 years and have now noticed that bullet impacts and weapon effects are having a severe effect on my framerate. I find this strange because the laptop I'm running it on right now (specs posted below) is significantly more powerful than the laptop I previously ran the game on.
I noticed that if I turn off antialiasing things get a bit better, but I'm not really sure what else to tweak to make the problem fully go away since there doesn't seem to be a graphics option for particle effects (which I assume are the culprit). If there's anything that I can do that will fix this without sacrificing more graphical fidelity though that'd be greatly appreciated.
Specs:
Laptop: Alienware m15 r4
OS: Windows 11, 64 bit
Processor: Intel i7-10870H, 2.20 GHz (8 cores)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM: 32 GB
Resolution: 3840x2160

Re: Frame rate problems from firing weapon
Try to drop resolution to 1920x1080 and see what happens. On a 15.6" display it should't make too much difference on eye candy but it's much faster to render. It's pixel-perfect half of your current resolution, so only 1/4 of the total pixel count and work load for the GPU.
BF2 engine is single-threaded so it can only use 1 processor core no matter how many cores the CPU has. Disabling HyperThreading and adjusting processor affinity so that PR has it's own dedicated core and no load on other cores, preventing Turbo Boost, might help as well.

Re: Frame rate problems from firing weapon
Resolution shouldn't be the issue, a 3070 should be able to run PR at 4K without breaking a sweat.
The problem with PR is that it can only use one CPU thread, so mobile CPUs like yours which have many cores but running at a low frequency aren't really optimal.
Make sure you have your Windows power configuration set to "best performance" and nvidia control panel power set to "prefer maximum performance", and make sure PR uses the discrete GPU and not the on-board intel one.

Oh hi everyone! Thanks for all the replies -- I dropped my resolution to 1920x1080 in addition to turning off antialiasing (which honestly I'm fine without anyways) and the problems have pretty much disappeared. So good to be back!
