[MAP] Cape Horn(4km)[WIP]

Planned Forces:

Chile vs Argentina

Image

For Operation Soberania the Argentine armed forces planned to start the invasion with amphibious landings to seize the islands southwards of the Beagle Channel. The Disputed Islands of Picton, Lennox and Nueva as well as the Cape Horn Archipelago, which marks the northern boundary of the Drake Passage and would provide Argentina a foothold on the Pacific Ocean, denying Chile of a possible expansion to the Atlantic Ocean.

On the 22th of December, near midnight the Argentine and Chilean Navy were hours away from engaging each other in what would have been the biggest Naval Battle in the history of America. Frigates, Battleships, Troop Carriers, Aircraft Carriers, Submarines. All were present on the Area of Operations but luckily the Argentine Forces were called back and the war was avoided.

As mentioned in another post. This map will take place in a ficticious situation, where the war went ahead, the Argentine and Chilean Navies clashed and the beach landings proceeded. This is why this map will have a focus on Naval warfare and amphibious assaults, several types of ships including logistical ones.

Chile will start on Navarino Island to the west and Argentina will start on their fleet to the northeast. Both teams have to fight over Picton, Nueva and Lennox islands, establishing beach-heads and securing the entirety of an island before moving to the next one. Most of the terrain is composed of elevation, dense forests and the occasional settlement with plenty of sea where faster and better armed boats can harass logistics or provide ground support

Looks fun. Maybe if type 21 frigate comes into being by the end of this decade we could get ALT layout on this with british forces :-D

Let me preface this by saying I am really happy to see you and others work to contribute to something you enjoy. However I see some significant issues here.

First off that man islands will cause a real headache. There are very few assets that can island hope well in this game. I get the appeal of establishing beach heads but it just doesn't work in this game, even if you give players multipole options.

Second don't plan on assets that are wip. Don't plan on assets being ingame when your map releases. Don't plan on it having a strong presence of assets that are just wip and don't really exist.

Thirdly quality. Honestly the easiest fix. Ground textures, low details maps and assets selection are all a miss here. Feel free to use pre programed assets for terrain but at least change it up a bit.

Next check your sources. Is the area you are representing really like that? Does it have that many deciduous trees or is it more wind swept than that. Should you go less wanda shan and more goose green?

Hopefully some more experience mappers will help guild you along as it seems you have an interest in this.

God no; that map is not great and the mapper has massive development issues with his work. It was removed for a reason and it should stay that way.

Thanks for the questions!
Assets have been taken care of. Even if it would be great to have more naval vessels  this map is being developed with the assets that already exist in mind, i have already coded variations of the naval vessels that are needed so they can be used by Chile and Argentina in any case.

before looking into making the map some research was done. quality pictures of the islands were hard to find and from the era of the conflict are practically impossible :x but it was ascertained that these are heavily forested isles. All of this archipelago and area in Tierra del Fuego generally is. here you can see some of the pictures:

Picton from the North

Nueva from the West

Somewhere in Lennox

Obviously, unless someone from the team actually travels there and gets all of the references needed, a lot of assumptions will have to be made.
All of this is still very early in wip  so changes are definetly going to be, and are being made

Anyways, feel free to post more feedback as we keep progresing
