M4 modifications for the IDF
Ahoy, I bring news from the land of modelling and texturing.
The IDF faction will primarily be using TAR-21, but some classes will use M4s. Because of this, we felt that we needed some new stuff so PR's M4s could better represent what the IDF use and so I set out on the quest to satisfy this need
Here is what I ended up with:
For those interested, these parts were made from high polygon models which I created so that the end result may be better resemble their real life counterparts.
(seen here is approximatly 700.000 triangles)
The models are build up of several layers of textures (or texture maps).
From left to right you will see the base model without any textures, a model with AO and normal map ("baked" from their high polygon counterparts), AO + normal + specular map, and lastly the final with normal + specular + diffuse (and alpha) maps.
Boom, headshot!
See ya on the forums and on the battlefield, Tom out!

Yes, your rifle gets beat up all to hell, the bluing wears off from use and ridiculous amount of scrubbing with CLP and an AP brush.
Infact the rifles should be skinned to almost look like that reflex sight.

Here is a real life example of the scratching: http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/6139/1000xv.jpgTomato_With_A_Rifle;bt725 wrote:Do those scopes get that many scratches real life
Good work
I have made a few less scratched up versions but this is the one the IDF MA's says looks closest to the real thing.
Yea you are probably right, I went for a hard plastic look, and I might have put a bit too much specular power on it, not worry though, it is a 5 sec fix.Rambo Hunter;bt730 wrote:Awesome
The only thing I'd change is make the stock and handguard a little less shiny to match the receiver a bit better. (Though I'm not sure if it's just the render and will look different once ingame)

Theres a Commando in PSC faction
The Scope is called Mepro21, its a self illuminating[hence no battery] reflex sight made in Israel, its also on the export version of TAR-21[not ingame].
My own user experience with Mepro21..the dot is hard to see..specially in the night when you stand under a lamp and aim at the dark area..but its light weight and rarely ever breaks down.
Inside the IDF usually the "newer" soldiers get Mepro21 while the Veterns get MARS on their M4s..on the TAR-21 everyone get MARS.
Ingame none infantry classes like Engineer and Medic will be getting the M4..
P.S its a M4A1 - automatic AR15 !
