Good times playing "Extraction" on Al Basrah

First of all, I did not share the enthusiasm of most people on this forum about PR until few days ago. I had not experienced the overwhelming teamwork others told about and found it quite annoying to repeatedly die without even knowing what had killed me and then having to waiting aeons until being able to participate again.

However, that changed and it is not least because of this https://www.realitymod.com/forum/showpo ... tcount=501 guy and the excellent teamwork I witnessed playing with him and a few others.

I want to pass on this story because it had both for me, some of that very excellent teamwork and also good moments in this rather confusing game mode "Extraction".

If you haven't played Extraction on Al Basrah, here's a quick rundown: US has to protect an unarmed vehicle carrying a VIP from the palace (south east corner of the map) to the air port (north west corner of the map) and pass a checkpoint called "Checkpoint" (duh) on the way. Insurgents have to ambush and destroy that vehicle.

Well, I was on the US team and a squadmate decided to take responsibility and drive the car with the VIP. Our squadleader (mentioned above) assigned us to protect and clear the area around Checkpoint which is naturally the hottest combat zone, because it is one of three spots on the map the VIP will definitely have to pass on his way out and Insurgents have several spawns nearby.
Within minutes, we've had fighting going on all around checkpoint when the guy driving car ("D") said "Guys, I'm coming in on checkpoint, need sitrep". Squadleader ("SL") said "come in, we're pushing them to the north already". Right in that moment an insurgent spawn car came into the checkpoint, dropped of its 2 passengers and suddenly 4 more had spawned.
SL: "D, try to stay away, we've got a whole enemy squad right at checkpoint."
D: "You must be kidding, I'm just a few meters away."
Well, 2 of us had been caught by surprise and killed by the enemy squad already, but the rest was putting up a fight, when the jeep came in and started circling around the little gas station building.
SM1: "D, you've got 2 AT chasing you around building."
D: "Good news, more of that please."

Somehow we managed to clear checkpoint, give our driver some rest and then move out and indeed push north again. Our driver went in another direction, obviously encountering a few badly executed attempts with suicide cars and RPGs and finally heard him say "10 seconds to airport, my heartbeat sounds like a drumroll" and indeed a few seconds later had won the round.

Reading through that again, I suppose you had to have been there, but for me, personally, that was a totally excellent PR moment. These guys are the ones I'm looking out for now, when I feel like playing PR and indeed we're regrouping almost every evening on the iGi server for a few days already.

As said, good times, good times.

"Grabs Ya, Don't it?"

When you are having a tense time, when the squad is good, when your immersion is high - that's when PR grabs you.

Oh yeah, and when you're drunk and singing into the voice comm too.
