Like i heard of many people: "dc is not the best mod, but the most popular", but why is it so popular?

I guess people just have a liking for that fast-paced, frantic, unrealistic and "anything goes" type of gameplay. Desert Combat can be extremely fun in some ways, and highly irritating in others. Overall it was, and still is a pretty good mod.

I think it has to do with the fact that it came out at the 'ideal' time with America actually going to war again with Iraq, and what better way to 'support' the troops/'get a piece of the action' than to play a game revolving around the Gulf War.

Fortnight is right. I think part of the massive initial rush to Desert Combat was simply the time it was released. After that, people found that it was basically BF1942 with modern-style weapons, and it just stuck.

hmm i think that , for me its over with playing dc (ok i will still play it but 1h a week ), i just tried it today on a public server, got first, there wasnt any fun anymore in it, if you know a littlebit the tactics you can win on every punblic serv, even the players on those dc servers are just  , i got all the time tked, without that someone said "srry". It isnt funny anymore...

DC can still be a lot of fun, as long as u'v got a good team to play with, it always ruins a gaming experience wen u'v got a lot of noobs on a map who don't even hav the common decency to apoligies for tkin.
For those of u who don't know about it, there's a mod of DC called Desert Combat Extended. I personally hav found this much betta, they've up'd the realism a little, and thrown in a lot more features. Their next release is looking to be a blast, adding a British team, a LOT more vehicles, heat seeking missiles, and some nice new candy features.

If ya wanna check it out hed on over to http://www.dcxtended.com

Although DCX does pack in a bunch of new features into DC, it's far from a realism mod. With things like nitrous speed boosts on the DPV, and the Avro Arrow, it's more wacky than anything else.

lol, let me rephrase that, I didn't so much mean realism in that way (although I think they did do something in the way of damage points on tanks etc), but instead of just having a single layout for each vehicle, they have a variety of weapon layouts (eg. with the Apache/Hind), plus the things like changing weapon skins (M16A2) dependent on map type. My apoligies for the confusion :D

I like the whole, run around with M203 launchers and extra grenades and super acurate AK47's!!! :o ops:

Actually he has a point with that.

AK's are really not that accurate even if they are kept totally clean.

Mabey you could make the shots are random over like 300 meters.

Maybe not accurate at far distances but you can rely on them to work in crappy conditions and close areas. In vietnam the vietcong had supplies of ak47's under water for long periods of times so americans wouldnt find them, and they still worked.

The only thing is that guns won't jam in one hour of battle. AK's go through years of combat and don't jam that's why terrorists love them.

If guns are able to jam, i would give the M16 more of a "jam rate" then the AK47...AK47's would be a little harder to shoot right? so it would be nice that maybe the gun jams randomly after you put in 4-5 clips into the gun...i mean who really keeps there gun for 5-6 clips? usually i pick up a rifle on the ground. I mean dont have it so that its automatic or anything that after 5-6 clips it does it, more like 5-6 clips and the more clips the bigger your chance is.

Actually, the reason alot of individuals use the AK's are because they can be thrown in the mud and dirt and still fire. Plus they are cheap...But they kick like a mule

what about the AKs makes them so much sturdier than, the M-16 for instance?

they are both made of steel, i assume they both have hardened barrels, reasonanbly sturdy construction but AK's can be run over by trucks and still work but if you drop an M16 too hard it breaks
