does any one else use this tactic?

Post by SGT.JOKER »

i was running my usual squad last night now that i got a good mic, "Chalk 4" was the squads name (yes its from BHD, i used it in vBF2 when ever i played mashtuur city so the name stuck) almost every one had mics, on the majority of the maps we played that night we were able to use "the 2 fire team" tactic to take control of our objectives fairly easy and when the time came to defend we were able to set up good defences using this tactic, i was wondering if any other squad leaders used this tactic besides me

No, its annoying as hell trying to coordinate everyone and causes more chatter from people trying to figure out who goes where than I care for. I've been in squads that try that and only thing you do is effectively half your firepower in any given situation because one group can't figure out to who or what the SL is going on about. Also a lot of time people keep forgetting if they're in one group or another and time lost to coordinating the groups tends to hurt in a close fight.
Only times I split the squad is when A) during a pincer assault on a flag and in which case I allow a good degree of autonomy for the other team B) splitting off a defensive position 1 or two people to scout, lead away, or preemptively attack a possible threat. C) send a guy out to distract a tank so a engi can rush it.

to do that, the squads need to be very good friends that play together regularly or clan mates. The training to achieve that sort of seemless gameplay is not for public playing with random players :)

I was once in a squad, where SL spilted us up in half and I was in a fireteam, lead by a SM, while the other fireteam was lead by the actuall SL....didn't really work out...

With 6 man squads, the best you can do is send one or two men off on the flanks to provide distrction fire and get the enemy to move out of their defences or far enough away from their flag that the rest can sneak in and neutralise the flag and destroy any spawn points there, thereby needing the enemy to spawn a flag back or worse!

splitting into fireteams would only really work if you have 8 or 10 men in a squad. Best if you use TS crossing squads and have two squads with 4 or more players for that sort of gameplan :)

Good rounds last night Joker (LeadMagnet here). It was fairly effective in helping us roll up the map on Helmand that's for certain. I led a few squads last night with a set pointman, flankers and me usually pulling tailend charlie as the SL. Although we didn't win the round the squad more or less stuck together and gave much better than we got. Good fun.

this tactic is one of the most effective ways to play PR, but as MR.D said everyone in the squad have to be familiar to each others playing style and all have to be good teamworkers . the SL and fireteam leader need to be very specific in what they need and what they want people to do! good examples of effectiv SLs that play this way is Me(*spacecadett*, top_cat and Bob.Dob). probebly loads more that use this squad set up but i havent played in about 2 months so those are the only names that pop in to my head.

I like small squads of 2-4, better communication and there's less chance, that one of the 5 will go requesting sniper kits and bugger off.

exactly, when you start the game make sure everyoneis on the same page! that way you wont get useless kits and people wroking "with" you instead of against you

Last thing on my mind, when fighting, is pressing Caps Lock and expand to Manage Squad and check, if there's a sniper in my squad on the other side of the map.
Well, they get kicked out, when we either win or regroup, but its still annoying, when you ask "Where's Mr.Nub, we need him!" - "umm, last I saw him in a ghillie suit..."

I use Alpha and Bravo fireteams all the time... sometimes it works, sometimes it works REALLY well! it all depends on your squadmates

-I do it once in a while but it's hard to get that level of coordination on public servers. A good idea is to designate someone as leader of the other fireteam so you don't have to order both fireteams around. It's odd how little it is used, a flanking maneuver is deadly in PR because obody ever covers their flanks. I can't count the number of times I've moved around and taken out an entire squad from their flank while they're busy shooting at the rest of my squad(Who are the distraction).

-By the way, anyone using the -F designation in their squads yet? I'm using it all the time now.

I understand your point, but tell when all other squads do same, how your team will get sniper/marksman support?

Its the engine of PR, that need a sniper join maybe your squad, at that point its egoistic to your team not to give one slot free for a sniper or maybe crewman.

Teamwork is not always same as squadwork.

Yep, I do this most of the Time, you just have to be Lucky.

One time on Sunset City I managed to Cortinate a Sqaud of:

2 Medics.
1 Heavy AT
1 Engineer
1 Light AT
and 1 Marksman.

It was a fun round and we won the map in no time, the Marksman stayed at the back and covered us with his shots, he was a good shot and i owed him my life 3 times over  . It was all very cordinated, even though one of our Sqaud had no mic he still listened (for the rest of the map i told him to be a tank)

To be honest fire teams don't work in PR. It simply isn't realistic enough. Is it really possible to suppress an enemy target 100%? Nope.

If I ever encounter 4+ enemy, I dive for cover, relocate, engage, repeat :)

We will go around and stab the enemy's Sniper in the *** and have a headshot party with his rifle.

Real PR players knife their enemy for sniper rifle, requesting them at base is for losers  ;)
