Ya, its always a good thing, right before the game, you get your 2 minute prep time :
-Check the mic volume
-Get accostum to everyone
-Say hello
-And my favorite question :''Hey guys, waths the plan?''

Glad you are a fan of voice comms, here is my VOIP guide i wrote a long time ago.
In my opinion all the decent players use voice.
Look forward to playing online with you mate.

It's really funny to ask that, if one joins a squad with a SL you don't know. I just start laughing while asking this stupid question.

I had a major chuckle when i was playing Al Bashrah and the squad were chatting away and i just joined and i said 'So whats the plan?' the whole squad went silent for at least 30 seconds. it was quite funny.

I don't usually ask for radio checks. I don't really need everyone to talk, so long as they follow orders. I routinely kick people though for not following orders (like to the extreme, like being a sniper on the other side of the map or something).

I just say hello to every person who joins my squad. Friendly radio-check. I usually set some ground rules or if the round hasn't begun, designate kits. I kick quite a bit for people not following orders or just being jerks.

Don't even plan on playing PR if you cant use VOIP.

The same plan we have every night Pinky,
try to take over the world.
I only really hate it when ppl without voip join a squad clearly labeled "ENG VOIP" or equivalent.
Not only don't they have voip but their IQ is clearly less than 50.

Hey I don't have VOIP at the moment and I'm definitely a smarter player than your average boob. I just have to stop moving to type. ![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
I generally try to join those ENG VOIP squads because that implies they're actually lead by people who lead.
But I can see where no voip would piss off some people.

this is my VoiP when i make a squad:
squad fills*
me -"every one , shut up and listen ... kits u be this kit u be that kit , u be that kit... if u dont be what kit i said we will lack certain kits and get pwned in certain situations.. if so blame ur self... plan do this then that. spawn here, any questions?"

When I start a squad I do this.
"Who's got a mic?"
Whoever doesn't respond, and doesn't type "I don't but I'm listening intently" gets a kick.
Once we've got a full mic squad, I do this.
"Okay, we need a Medic for the round - Volunteer?"
"me."
"Okay good, Automatic Rifleman - Volunteer?"
"i'll do it."
"Brill, Rifleman AT, who?"
"ooh me me me!"
"Right; the other 2, one stay rifleman, the other go any kit you like so long as it works with the squad. If I see anyone with sniper kits, spec-ops kits, pilot kits or crewmen kits without asking is out straight away. Spawn at 'X', and let's move out on foot."
