T-62 Longevity Tips

Post by Expendable Grunt »

It's late, I don't want to sleep, and I feel like typing, so I will present some very basic tips on keeping the T-62 alive on Fools Road.

The T-62 in game is a ... watered down version of the real one, but it will suffice. My beloved Militia has the advantage of armour superiority, but the terrain all over the map (especially around Helicopter, Train, and Warehouse) give the British a powerful advantage in Heavy AT applications (however all attempts to kill my T-62 with HAT have all failed).

With the British Warrior and Scimitar being ineffective against the T-62, it none the less perplexes me as to why the faster Warrior and similarly (to the T-62) speedy Scimitar crews don't simply run away from, and use evasive tactics to survive attacks from, the T-62. Instead, these fools sit and attempt to kill you. Use this to your advantage. 2 HEAT or 2 SABOT rounds are sufficient to destroy either one.

The T-62 doesn't have, in game, the luxury of the turret gunner. However, the militia does get 2 of these, and a full 6 man squad is truly needed to keep these beasts running.

A six man squad is to consist of two sappers for repairs and mine removal. These will use a technical (one driver, one 12.7mm gunner) as a fast recon vehicle. On the move, it is difficult to attack them with LAT perpendicular to their course. Using this, a recon team ranging ahead of the tanks by 100m can make hidden enemy infantry positions known by the LAT missile's smoke trail. In addition, they can spot and remove mines.

The T-62 is to be crewed by two crewman each. Despite the fact that you think all tanks you see instantly belong to you, it is best to allow a singular armour squad to use both of these, so that resupply and repairs are done speedily, and both tanks can cover each other on the move.

It is unwise to leave the roads in favor of cross country travel unless necessary. The barrel has a collision mesh, and this reduces the tanks ability to act in closed in areas, and can become stuck on the hills in the areas off the roads.

Foolish tankers, can easily waste these vehicles on mines, or being C4'd by British troops when the tank has brought itself into close order. It is best to avoid areas you cannot look all around you in, and you must send a technical ahead to draw fire, as well as fend off surprise infantry maneuvers.

With these simple techniques, you are assured to have victory on Fools Road.

Putting a T62 inside Estate works very well in defending it, but without infantry support you'll get smoked up and C4'd.
No infantry squads when attacking with T62 is also fail, as one 1.) infantry benefits from armor support which is needed to successfully capture something, unless you feel like tard rushing a CP with well entrenched defenders with scoped weaponry 2.) you'll get easily ambushed by L-AT and engineers, unless there's infantry to force the enemy into an infantry fight, where you'll win because you have a frigging tank to slaughter them with.

this if often true. However still if you find yourself constantly attacked by a british apc don't just stand there in the open, but get to cover or get an engineer to repair your vehicle. If I remember correctly it takes around 60 sabots from the scimitar to destroy the t-62. (most of them hitting softer parts of the armor, such as tracks, side and rear)

We did destroy a t-62 with a scimitar just yesterday, we had a good hiding spot and just came out to shoot about 10-15 rounds and then went back to cover when the tank started pointing it's nasty turret at us. The tank never even thought of getting repairs/hiding and didn't seem to care about us that much. Your t-62 is very durable, but it's not invincible.

The key your strat is the repairs. Without going back for repairs, The scimitar can just hit and run until your health is out.

I remember one round driving in the Scimitar with two tank spotters hiding in the woods and an engineer standing by for repairs back behind the front line. We basically just hit and run firing sabot's at the T-62's until the turret got within 60 degrees of our position, at which point we would just dash behind a hill, and get any necessary repairs or ammo. Our Scimitar and three groundpounders managed to tie up and eventually destroy both T-62's. The tanks were so wrapped up trying to kill the us that they spent around 30 minutes trying (and failing), preventing them away from supporting their infantry. This ensured a British victory as our Warriors and other Scimitar , without having to worry about the T-62's annihilated all of their vulnerable APC's and infantry.

One of my top 5 most enjoyable rounds of PR ever.

Moral of the story is, without the T-62's being used effectively, Militia can have a hard time winning this map.

One of my hates about this game, its ment to be reality but, it clearly isnt... 2 115mm apfsds rounds to destroy a warrior/scimitar, are you having a laugh? or 60 rounds froma warrior! APFSDS rounds pepper t-62's and the likes in real life, ive heard stories of mates opening them up like a can of beans with their Rarden!

Anyway that aside...

What you said is true, my first time in a T-62 on that map was brilliant, i had accumulated a 6 man squad, 2 T-62's 1 engineer operating using a BRDM along with a infantry man scoping out at least 200m in front of us.

Keeping the two tanks relitively close was our success, one retreating from contact (needing repairs) and us taking its place, whilst the other covered our rear (vice versa) at all times. The engineer would always be at our rear in cover, being quickly deployed in his BRDM upto us.

The Hills where our major problem, as its hard to spot squads moving in, but! having our infantry man closer to their positions it was a hell of a lot easier, he could tell us their location, and reply if we hit them.

Overall the commander would tell us where other squads need our support most. Our spotter would dive in the BRDM with our engineer, and our convoy would move out! Satisafaction.
