Merlin Help

Post by Galliruler »

Would someone mind making a training video for the Merlin? I don't know why I have trouble with it.... Thanks to anyone who helps.

Your best bet is to make your own LAN training server and run the AL BARASH map and practice there. A video will never properly train you as well as trying will.

Here's some basic tips:

- You MUST have the pilot kit
- You MUST wait a minimum of 30 seconds before applying any throttle or you will crash
- The co-pilot seat can raise and lower the back hatch of the chopper with the W and S keys
- Always try to land on flat ground
- When landing, don;t mash the throttle down key, lightly apply it enough to lower the craft at a safe speed. CHOPPERS ARE MUCH MORE FRAGILE IN PROJECT REALITY

Hope this Helped

very good hints, Colonelcool125. i agree with them.
also, don't be too scared of small arms fire. enemies will often try to scare you away from a landing. if you're in a (to you) relativly safe area and taking single bullets every 3-5 seconds, you can probably make the drop and get out of there ok.

For a new pilot i would be careful of this, especailly on insurgancy maps, as AK fire is normally a good indicator that an RPG is being prepped. But if your flying relatively low/fast or it sounds like only single AK you should be fine.

when i fly i generaly go in even if i take an rpg then again i fly at street level like a car so by the time they reload im around the next corner. on insurgent maps thats what i sugest . their AA will get you if you fly high.

Thanks, I tried everyone's advice, and I must admit, my gameplay improved.

Plus, I noticed if you wait 40 secs. your chopper goes like, fourty miles faster.

Awesome. ;)

Plus, I was on a local server with some firends, and I was on Al Basrah in the Merlin, full squad, I hovered over a suspected weapons cache, and I popped the back.

Without warning, a fastrope flew out from a mountaineer and the entire squad slid down.

We lost three good men, but found the cache and were able to actually avoid crashing. We returned to base, got the three men, and returned to duty.

Thanks to all of your help. :-)

Thanks, again.

Yes helos are very daunting at first. You think 'how am I never going to crash this thing?'. Then after a few hours of practice, and some time experimenting with your mouse settings, suddenly it gets a lot easier.

Plus I find the Merlin to be the most forgiving of the Nato choppers. Huey is much twitchier and the Blackhawk I find to be like flying a brick.

Merlin ftw.

Yes, the Merlin = Win.

But if you're ever trying to show off or scare the sh*t out of a squad you're transporting, take a sky cow and drive it along on it's front wheel.
