[Short Story] For Helicopter pilots

Ever had that moment where you're carrying a full Little Bird, get locked by AA (despite you hitting every single bit of Flares out that you have), and then getting a direct hit and SURVIVING?

Not just surviving though, surviving completely disabled. It happened to me today, and I felt so hopeless. We were flying low into Muttrah bay...when we get the ominous lock tone. I immediately begin a pull-off of my drop run whilst hitting flares like mad.

whoooosh-BAM! We get a direct hit, and every person sitting on that side of the bird dies. But instead of myself and the last 3 people going kablooie in a fireball, we're still ALIVE!!

With no Helo functionality whatsoever :p . We were at about 50 feet, and there was absolutely no power/control input. We fell like a rock, straight down into the sea. The worst part of it was, I knew I couldn't bail, I knew I could bring it down controlled and let the remaining men bail into the drink. We. Were. SOL.

I brought the Cobra back to the ship even though I couldn't turn and was under fire. I had to back up to the ship and land on it completely blind.

something similar happened to me. i was spotting for the cobra and asked for a little bird to be dropped off at hotel (btw it happened at mutrah). so he flew there and we got locked on by AA. it hit the little bird the pilot died. and the chopper fell to the ground amazingly it didn't blow up. i got up and applied some bandages and was good as new.

That's what I said. I had to back up to the carrier, you know, going backwards. Not flying back to the carrier, flying backwards to the carrier.

Lol, I wonder what the people at the carrier must have been thinking.

I once got hit with an AA missile while flying the attack Huey on Barracuda. I turned around and went back for the LHD deck. It was apparent that the heli was very low on health and about to explode

Unfortunately, it exploded in mid air as I was trying to put it down on the deck itself. I was literally seconds away from a safe landing. Some guy who was on the deck at the time actually asked me what happened, confused about a suddenly exploding chopper trying to land.

It's tricky, but you can turn a helo without rudder to different headings without rudder functionality. This is primarily why you should practice flying without a rudder (have an X52? Use the rudder lock ;) )

It takes a while and some room but I can turn without rudder but I'm not going to do it under fire.

Got disabled in the MEC Eurocopter and managed to land it in the middle of nowhere.
Had to get a Engineer in a Engie jeep to come fix me up. Was rather fulfilling.
I love that liddle Euro-copter :)

Not that tricky at all ;) Just fly it somewhat like a jet.

i flying LB most time cause its the best, and have lost rudder control on it , and its very easy to fly and land without it tbh. just use mouse (dunno how on joystick)

But its not fun when you fire an AA missile from your aa emplacement on muttrah see the AA slam into the front of the chopper but because of the bf2 engine the chopper is unharmed. Happens way too often.
I think this happens when the missile hits a person, and their body shields the chopper from most of the blast. Whenever I see it happen, there's always atleast 1 body that falls out of the Heli.

I would also like to say this to helicopter pilots. Ahem....

IF I DON'T ASK FOR A PICKUP, LEAVE MY SQUAD ALONE!!!!!!!!!

It always pisses me off when I'm playing Muttrah or Ramiel or any map, am walking with my squad, being stealthy, then all of a sudden an unasked for, unneeded heli comes and hovers, then lands right next to my squad, totally telling anyone with half a brain there are guys in that area now.

This is one of the top 3 things that piss me off in PR

^ Yeah, and they park in the middle of the street for a few minutes spamming "Get in! Get in! Get in!". Of course the MEC comes raining down on the helicopter which then the pilot panics and slams into the side of a building trying to get away.

I wish the "out of control" effect could be implemented for online games. When you set up a local server and shoot a hovering LB in the tail with LAT it just spins out of control and crashes. :)

BTW ^agree with that, if noone is asking for transport or pickup/evac its better to wait in a safe zone (preferably at main base).

+1 X52 ftw, and flying without a rudder isn't that hard. You just have to plan your moves ahead of time.
