[Video] Dev Fight Event Jan-31-09 - Commander perspective

Here are 5 raw videos of me commanding the US forces on Karbala during the Dev Fight community event.

The videos don't show the entire round as I stopped recording at one time and forgot to continue :p

These videos are not for everybody as it doesn't show any action, just strategy and communication. RTS fans would like it more ;)

Lessons to be learned:

1. Use proper communication protocols. If squad leaders decide to just talk away with the commander it can be very confusing as you can see in the video. BUT commanders also need to respect SL internal communication and execute the same protocols back (something that I also failed to do sometimes).

2. Be clear. That's more for me, as I tend to mumble and my microfone setup is not that good, specially while I'm recording. If you couple that with english not being my native language, it can get frustrating sometimes.

3. You are a facilitator and organizer, try to get the right resources and information to the right people. That means contact reports, logistics, transport, etc. Organizing supply convoys and passing fire support locations to the CAS squad is your job and can be done much faster than any SL typing it.

Any other lessons? Type away ;)

A day at the CO office. Nice vids.

On of my most used terms in the communication as a CO:

"Stand by squad X"

"Hold"

"Wait"

Lessons to be learned:

- Be sure to remind squads to use proper comms protocols. Squad Leaders will not be used to talking to CO so its your job to ensure they are using good comms procedures, sending their squad number to you before speaking and waiting for you to accept their transmission when the comms are hectic.

- Giving squads a long term strategy while they are sitting in a fixed position is a good way to keep them motivated and make them feel like they have a purpose. By having a squad sit in a fixed position indefinitely, taxes their moral and their confidence in you as a leader. Sometimes timing things on the in game clock, and having all squads meet that deadline is an effective way to motivate the squads that are sitting ready, and the squads that are still getting their shit together

- Important asset squads should report in when they loose vehicles, and indicate where the threat came from. Make sure important asset squads know when their vehicles will be respawning (20min tanks/aav/jets/atk heli, 10min apc/jeeps)

I would have done, but I had to join another squad when my gunner left, and I don´t know if he communicated with anyone.

Although the same the other way round, I never heard about an AAs and such.

Later on we got more markers, but I just didn´t know anything because I wasn´t getting any info relayed by the SL. :-?

That and the guy camping our main made it impossible to do pretty much anything. :-|

But I hope more things like this happen in the future, because its never that I get a chance to play cas organised without getting mainraped, TKed or whatever. :)

Did you order the striker to camp the exit at the Mosque? or did they just improvise?

Really to bad it ended when it did as we had booby trapped the entire complex in
A3-B3. I myself had at least 7 IED's around the area, then you guys run out of tickets  :p before we could blow it up.
