Question about kit tweaking

Hey guys. I have been lurking these forums forever but decided to post since I am having trouble with pr_sp, which is freaking awesome btw.

So, I have done some light tweaks like reducing deviation and playing with ammo counts for choppers but where I have run into trouble is with the kits. I have attempted to change the officer kit load out for army but when the map loads it CTD. I know the problem lies with the kit files because usmc maps load just fine. I replaced the kabar with grappling hook, smoke for c4 slam, and m16 for m4aimpoint. I appreciate any input. Thanks.

your problem is the grappling hook and kabar for starts. you can not just throw any weapon you want into any weapons slot. go to the weapons folder and look at the weapon files, scroll till you see weapon index (#) if it is a 1 then that weapon must go into the weapon slot (#) 1. also make sure spelling is correct.

Thanks. That was the problem, had item index #'s doubled. Fixed now. Thanks.

How do i edit the Kits? I tried several times by replacing the m4ugl with a m16a4ugl, but i get a CTD. I even tried making a new kit, but that also caused a CTD. Any word on it if its possible / or not possible is appreciated.

chances are you replaced the m4 with the m16 but didnt replace the actual ugl

Yeah, i replaced them all three, but i'll try it again and report back.

Well, it works now. Cheers mate. I dont know if its because i wrote it wrong or its because i tried opening it in "Compressed (zip) folders" now. But it still solved my problems anyhow. Thanks chap.

if you don't want to extract and recompress i suggest using winrar, because it will repack automaticly when you change containing files

Is there a MP5 in one of the default kit loadouts? Is it possible to add with an edit?

Think just some of the crewman kits (MEC???) have that weapon, so no 'default' ones I believe.

Anything's possible with editing ;)

I'll let someone else explain how to do it, but be more specific to what you want to have happen.

ballard is right, crewman for the MEC has the mp5a3 as the primary weapon

and to change more kits to have the mp5

go to local c/ program files/ ea games/ bf2/ mods/ prsp v85/ objects server( you need winrar or a equivilant program)/ kits/(after that go to what ever faction you want to change and the specific kit you are want to change.) and open the file and change the primary weapon {item index 3} to the [usrif_mp5a3])

then obviously save and then play.

good luck and remember to always back up working copies.

Be careful, Mike: modifying kits and such will only work if you're play single-player. If you try to play on coop servers or with others on Hamachi, I believe it will cause to CTD. Your kits have to remain unaltered to play PRSP with others.

it may even cause PB kicks or bans.

I know I want try this too alot, because I only do singleplayer, but I don't know realy how to do it. Could someone tell me how to access the file that has everything about the kit and what program to open it up with so I dodn't just get a bunch of gibberish?
