Helicopter Takeoff
Can anyone give me a couple tips as to why whenever I try to take off with a helicopter, it seems to go out of control right away.
I have the throttle set around 60 while taking off, but it always seems to spin out of control.

Like it says in the manual...(that you ofcourse have read first ??: )
Helicopters have a warm-up time of 30 seconds. If too much thrust is
generated while the rotor blades spin up, the pilot will lose control and
crash. To start the helicopter you have to leave the throttle at idle for
at least 30 seconds before trying to lift off

Yeah, I've went to the bathroom and came back, put the throttle to ~60 and didn't touch the mouse or anything else, and it still goes crazy on me.
Also, I'm not sure if this is normal, while the engine is warming up, I haven't touched any buttons yet, the helicopter sort of glides backwards, is this normal?

I'm geussing the problem is you're only on 60 thrust. Whenever I take off or fly I usually use 100% thrust unless I need to go slow or something and always 0% when landed and 100% when takeing off or the chopper will tip over and things like that.

Re: Helicopter Takeoff
You have to wait 30s before putting any throttle. After 30s you can take off with 100% throttle.

Re: Helicopter Takeoff
Like mentioned, after warming up you generally want to go 100% on the throttle in order to get a clean takeoff.
On some choppers you also have to compensate for a slight forward flip tendency.

you may also be having an issue i've had before. i found that a "closed" throttle on my MS Sidewinder joystick is actually at about 45-49% (of actual throttle movement.) If i dont remember to set the throttle to just below the middle before getting in, the chopper starts moving about during warm-up. Some chopper does it less than others. Blackhawks used to be the worst for it but its improved since .85.

Re: Helicopter Takeoff
If your having real problems when taking off, even wait 40+ seconds, because even after 30 secs the propellers have not speed ed up all the way. And remember to put your throttle at 100% and take of quickly.
And when you start flipping and even if your already sideways just press S or put your throttle all the way down so it will go back. I HATE when pilots start flipping their chopper they jump out immediately, all they have to do is put their throttle down...
This even saved my when i cought on a tree while flying a huey on barracuda i got cought on a tree and turn all the way upside down but then i just pressed S and i got right back up.

Huey is a little FUBAR.
Wait 50 seconds for the huey to wind up. Even then, be weary, soldier..

Double check your joystick is properly calibrated in vBF2. I had to clear my settings in vBF2 to fix some PR issues, and of course it wiped my controls. When I tried to take off a huey full of a squad, assuming I had correctly remapped my controls, I found left and right were reversed and the more I tried to pull to the left to correct the banking, it rolled to the right. Not pretty.

It's got a bugged startup time.

yer you have to sit there for bloody ages and even then it takes off very slowly, I find circling for a bit to warm up the rotors is the best thing to do.

Yea thats bad, but i think that the huey is the most fun to pilot especially low and fast, its quite agile IMO, hovering is also harder than most other choppers IMO. But nothing is perfect right? there are tend to be setbacks for each helicopter ingame.Welshboy wrote:It's got a bugged startup time.
And Project Reality is all about patience anyway, a minute of waiting might be irritating when enemies are shooting at you, but when your safe on a carrier, why not wait instead of rushing into action and dying with the helicopter serving little or no effort to win the game. Its not like the huey is bugged to an extent that it blew up on takeoff...
