Problem with your connection

Post by Meow »

Ok so the lowdown on the system.

Dell XPS 410
XP Home
1.8 Intel
2GB Ram

Connection: Verizon FioS 20 down 15 up.
Connecting to wireless network through a Dlink WUA 1340 USB adapter
Wireless signal: excellent

I have already tried:

TCP optimizer
Update Dlink drivers
Updating PB
BF2 and PBsetup in firewall exceptions list

Usually my ping is very good to servers in the East cost (11-70ish). No matter what server i get into at 2-5 minute intervals i get "there is a problem with your connection" for about 1-2 seconds after which it goes back to normal.
My ping also spikes from 11 to as high as 1000.
I dont get dropped from the server but keep having these 1-2 second pauses.
It makes playing very unnerving.

I am out of ideas of what the problem could be aside from maybe my Dlink wireless USB adapter (even though i have adapted the driver). Would like to try connecting with ethernet cable but carrying the comp downstairs is a pain in the ***.

The only other option is that the router is having issues with PB (its already an exception on the XP firewall).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: After paying attention on the Virgina server (which is walking distance from me) i noticed that my ping stayed between 8-12 and even when i was getting the "there is a problem with your connection" pauses it wouldn't spike like on other servers. Also seemed the pauses were much shorter (almost instantaneous).

Since no one seems to know of a solution let me rephrase it.

Does anyone know of any issues with Verizon provided wireless routers?

As in have you had to go into the router and forward the ports for BF2 and PB?

I have the exact same problem. I don't have the same router, it's not even WIFI.

I started to get this error since bf2 patch 1.5...

Im pretty sure mine was acting up before 1.5 I just thought it was due to my crappy *** 3 down 0.5 up connection but that cant be it since im having the same issue with 20 down and 15 up.

I used to use WI FI but had connection problems very often, now I use 200Mbs home plugs and I am very happy with them

Well its not the Verizon wireless router since im still having the problem after DMZing it.

The only possible culprits left are my USB wireless DLink adapter or a bad install of the game/os (although everything else works fine).

i have the exact same problem, and came to this topic also looking for an answer.
i got normal ping but i get these "Problem with your connection" messages every 20 seconds for 1-3 seconds.
When i camp they barely exist, but when sprinting, shooting, and engaged on a firefight they go up to 1 message per 7 seconds .....

Are you using a usb wireless adapter too?

My comp is on the second floor so once i stop being lazy ill take it down to the router and test it with an ethernet cable.

Well as it turned out the problem has to do with the wireless D LINK USB adapter. I switched to a trendnet one and the problems is mostly solved. I dont get the "there is a problem with your connection" anymore although the game does still jump a milisecond blip from time to time although not bad enough to affect gameplay.
