PRSP 0.87 Shortcut Path Exception

Post by blackfish-san »

hey guys i need some help.

everytime i run PRSP 0.87 i get a message that claims, that i have to alter the path of my shortcut because it points on the bf2.exe instead of the pr.exe, that happens right after i select a offline account.
i already created a new offline account and also double-checked the path of the shortcut, but that didn't solve the issue.
and yes, it doesn't matter if i run the shortcut or the pr_sp.exe directly.

thanks

Sounds like you didn't install everything or didn't install things in the correct order?

hm, here's the installation order, but i don't think i messed it up:
  • PR 0.856 Core
  • PR 0.856 Levels
  • PR 0.860 Patch
  • PR 0.860 Retro Mappack 1
  • BF2 Patch 1.50
  • PR 0.874 Patch
  • uninstalled PRSP 0.85 and removed the pr_sp directory located in mods
  • PRSP 0.87 Core
  • PRSP 0.87 Levels
my operating system is Vista x64 and when i try to run PR or PRSP vistas uac dialog pops up. if i run PR the dialog message says that the pr.exe requires admin rights but if i run PRSP then it's not the pr_sp.exe but it's the BF2.exe and that might be the cause of all that trouble!?

the ingame message i mentioned above, is the same one you'll get after creating or retrieving an account.

the detailed message of the uac dialog says that i'm trying to run "%myvolume\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr_sp +menu 1

i'm wondering about that, 'cause it would mean that the pr_sp.exe just works as a shortcut, is that right since it isn't the same with the pr.exe?

that's the reason why i get the ingame message, claiming i've to alter the path of my shortcut so that it points on the pr.exe.

I´m running vista64 but my shortcut looks like this..

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp\pr_sp.exe" +modPath mods/pr_sp +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

you can skip this part
+modPath mods/pr_sp +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

My prsp path looks like this.
"E:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp\pr_sp.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +restart
+menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +restart
The part above are my personal settings and not needed

There should be no reason for the part below to be added into your path.
+modPath mods/pr_sp
And certainly PRSP should not be using the BF2.exe anymore.

Truth is blackfish-san, I use XP, but it seems like you don't have 'control' over your computer?
Since I don't use Vista, I can't tell you how to solve Vista issues.

that's what i'm talking about, but in my case it seems to do so!?

why, i don't know and that's why i'm asking! maybe there is sth wrong with my pr_sp.exe?
but i'm wondering about that, 'cause i'm the only one with this issue.

what i'm trying to say is, that even when i run the pr_sp.exe whithout using the shortcut generated by the setup, the uac dialog message says that i'm trying to run "%myvolume\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr_sp +menu 1 instead of "%myvolume\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp\pr_sp.exe" (+modPath mods/pr_sp +menu 1)
and as the result i get the ingame message saying i should change the path of my shortcut.

i'm not so sure about that, i guess it isn't just an vista issue.

sorry to bother you with sth u apparently can't solve!? o.O
next time, please just say "sorry, but i can't solve your issue. you can try to reinstall pr and bf2 completely."

i won't feel happy about that, but if it can't be solved, it can't and you only can try to reinstall everything.

thanks.

very true.

When you RIGHT click on your PRSP desktop shortcut and select the 'properties' tab at the bottom, what does the 'Start In' path say?
Not "Target' path, the 'Start In' path.

It should read just like below, minus the E drive letter.

Code: Select all

"E:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp"

@Herr Schwarzfisch

You have a pr_sp.log file in your pr_sp folder, txt file next after pr_sp.exe - you can open with Windows Editor (Notepad). What does it state? Is PR MP and BF2 running properly from G:\ ?

try:

run Vista with admin account, make shortcut from pr_sp.exe to desktop, should state under properties (Eigenschaften)

Target / Ziel:

"G:\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp\pr_sp.exe"

Run (start) in / Ausführen in:

"G:\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp"

you might put in after "...\pr_sp.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +restart

sxz and szy are screen resolution, restart skips movies

Report back please

@Ballard /Devs

the pr_sp.exe is moving (exchanging) the shader files and then starts bf2.exe with giving it the arguments like modpath etc. ?!? (besides checking for profile folder and some con stuff). That way i think the UAC message isn't wrong as it says exactly what pr_sp is doing: starting itself and running bf2.exe with modpath and other arguments as child process where pr_sp.exe is parent...

I wonder whether if there's confusion coming from double patched PR MP ?

Code: Select all

Or because of not restarting pr_sp after making a new account? *lol*
