Hello. I do wonder why i haven't created a forum account yet, even tho i have been playing for some time now.
Anyway, i'd like to know how could i get to snipe or use marksman kit when nobody wants one in their team. I did try to create a sniper squad once, but it is not really fun when your friend snipes and you just spot for him, and swapping kits is not possible.
What should i do to get to even TRY out long range shooting. I'm tired of close combat infantry.
If no one wants a sniper in your team, it might just be because a sniper isnt needed.
On a lot of maps I find the sniper teams to be unnecessary or even ineffective. The view distance might be too short, there might be too many trees, etc.
To me, a sniper squad works best when there is a CO. The sniper/recon squad can relay intel on enemy positions, firebases and armor to the CO, which will increase the team's situational awareness greatly.
This, in my opinion, is what you should focus on when sniping. Kill whatever you can kill without being seen or heard, and report all enemy movement.
On a lot of servers, if you would create a sniper squad together with a spotter at the start of the game, and only if snipers are called for on that particular map, will you "get to snipe".
With this game, I find that seeing the big picture is one of the most important things.
Do what's best for the team, not necessarily what might be fun atm, and I'm sure you will be rewarded somehow.
But that's just my view of things. I'd very much like to hear what others have to say in this topic.
Well, the sniper might or might not be effective without a commander. If you report enemy locations on teamchat or even better, Mumble, TS or Vent, you will be a very valuable asset to the team. But you have to do this very efficiently in order to be an asset IMO.
a sniper is ONLY effective on kashan and when comms are good. other than that i don't really know where a sniper would excel in performance compared to any other kit.

correct me if i'm wrong
Muttrah City in the A7 spot? Racked up 12 kills with no deaths sniping there once.
Join a squad that you can EFFECTIVELY overwatch for. You sit in the hills, building, whatever...and cover them as well as giving them intel. Make sure you tell them this first. It really is effective with a good enough sniper or sniper team.
Best Sniping maps: Muttrah (A7K2 especially), Kashan, Jabal Al Burj, Qwai River and maybe EJOD desert.
Good Luck and yes, join a clan. Women love clan members
One thing people forget with the sniper is its ability to change the enemies tactics. Many times on mutthra I find that there is a sniper hiding in the mountain, taking shots at my team. He might not kill many of us but he changes the behaviour of a large part of the team. No more providing overwatch on the roof or crouching in a back yard ambushing enemies without making absolutely sure the sniper cant see us from the mountains. When you hear bullets hitting the ground around you when running it puts fear into to the squad and depending on the experience of your teammates, can lead to rash decisisions like shooting at random at the mountains. All of this is certainly negative for the team and if the sniper provides intel and lazes as well, I would say that is a good trade-off from taking away one-two guys from the frontlines.
All in all a snipers usefulness depends on the skill of the sniper in stealth, communication and tactical awareness but even more importantly what map is being played.
Just go muttrah grab a MEC sniper, have some fun with the laser. "oh us troops (laser that)" cobra comes in and alot of the time will just fire the hellfire at general lasers.
Why a sniper team instead of a Recon squad? A recon squad has overall more firepower, there are several roles in this squad (My opinion) when I setup a recon squad (At Kashan/Muttrah/Archer) I always make sure that i have this kits;
- SL you are nothing without it.
- Sniper, better then a Marksman, It can provide long range cover for your squad.
- Medic, so you don't need to respawn too much and you're possible to operate longer behind enemy lines.
- AA (Only on Kashan) or LAT for CQB fire support.
- AR, it's your rear guard he provides cover when scouting the area.
- Grenadier/Rifleman, he's your point guard. When you need to move into a valley, compound, village or building he's the first one to go in. When he's shot it's less suspicious then a medic behind enemy lines.
Differences: Rifleman/Grenadier------KIA----------> enemy thinks he's a lone wolf.
Medic-------->KIA------------> enemy will search for the squad he's serving for.
With this you don't waste a squad and you can support more squads then with 2 people. But never ever open fire without permission it could get your squad killed and your CO will lose his "eyes".
Ive sniped on all of the maps. From my exp id say the sniper is useful when the other team is not very good and when they move around the map alot in uncordinated movements. Lone wolfs make up for most of my kills.
My sniping record from map to map.
Operation archer : 53 kills 0 deaths Sniping partner 34 kills 0 deaths. ( i was working with a partner in 2 man squad who also had a sniper kit )
Muttrah city : 27 kills 0 deaths
Sunset city : 32 kills 0 deaths
Qwai river : 14 kills 0 deaths
Fallujah West : 12 kills then i got knifed
Al kufrah oilfield : 8 kills then killed out in the open by apc.
Karbala : 18 kills 0 deaths
Fools road : 27 kills 0 deaths ( when all the flags were on one side of the map )
Ejod desert : 22 kills 0 deaths
These are the maps ive had the most success on. On most of these sniping missions i was usually killed by an insurgent/enemy who caught on to my postion . But on some i lived thru the whole round using Stealth and patience to my advantage.
I led a squad once that had a great marksman. We would set a spot to attack, then our specialist would put him up somewhere to spot for us. He would call out contacts, and take shots at "goats".
We did awesome. Medic did his job, specialist did his job too.
My tip? Find a good clan and server. Join an infantry squad and ask "need an AR or marksman?"
Do what you are told until you get good. Then you may even go on to leading squads.
