Do you like the deviation system in v0.909?

As with the Rally Point change the deviation system is one of the most frequent topics of discussion on these forums and most of the threads about it seem to be complaining that it is unrealistic and too difficult, with very little praise going around.

Therefore I thought it might be useful to get some feedback from forum users on how they feel about the deviation system.

The key changes for 0.9 are as follows:
  • Updated Deviation on ALL hand held weapons. Full settle time for ANY weapon is not required unless you've been on the move for 5 seconds. This works linearly, so if you've been on the move for 1 second, you'll only require 1/5th of the settle time, for 2 seconds, 2//5ths etc
  • Annihilated insta-proning.
Hopefully a poll can be added with options something like this:
  • Deviation in 0.9 is perfect. I consistently hit my targets and think it feels fairly realistic (as far as the BF2 engine goes).
  • I like it and it is better than previous versions, but it still doesn't feel realistic/could use some work.
  • I hate it, I can't hit my targets and find it very difficult to deal with.
  • Deviation?

i think that the deviation is better than previous version.
but its just silly looking when you have your aim in a chest of a enemy and you miss the shot.
so,maybe just eyecandyswayanimationthing to remind that there is something why you miss.

but overall is just ok.

How about: "liked deviation in 0.8"... or "Deviation is to low"? ^^

any sort of sway would just confuse players more so, with new players thinking it matches deviation.

IMO:

"I like it and it is better than previous versions, but it still doesn't feel realistic/could use some work."

Deviation will never be perfect, but it is the best its ever been and im very happy with it.

I really like the deviation, it makes the most realistic firing positions the most accurate. I love it when people prone dive while I am crouching and aiming at their face. The moment they prone dive, I stop and make sure that they get a bullet in the head, while they watch me aim and their bullets go all over the place! > :)

When rounding a corner, the deviation is great if u know how to use it. You stop, take a breath at a corner, go around and u have GED (good-enough-deviation)

Way better than in 0.87, but I liked the 0.6 version best. Even as it is now you aim like a not so sober judge, having bullets flying to the corners of the screen, if you are too hasty.

Yeah hitting the wall 2 feet to the side of you like you are drunk and shaking on coke is annoying. The max deviation still needs to be tightened up a bit imo.

Its a toughy.
I think its just more about variables.
Such as running; crouching; proning, they should all have differant levels as well as running up hill down hill going over rocks.
Ive had one guy we were out in the desert and He was running down hill crouched i was running crouched up the hill and he hit me yes he had the gravitational pull but at the same time realistically his speed would have meant he slipped a bit or it was harder not to fall forward.

Again "I like it and it is better than previous versions, but it still doesn't feel realistic/could use some work."
I think the main problem is that people want it to be easy instead of realistic. And if it gets too hard players wont stick around. So there needs to be easy ways to hit targets such as prone for a long time and almost dead on shot and hard like running around corners creates terrible kick back and massive deviation so the insurgents cant just ambush round corners with no fear of their life.

i'm not going to say that I like it, cuz I don't like deviation, but I accept it as part of the realistic simulation.

so, I'm happy with it, rather than I like it.

I would OFC prefer it if we had a game that had weapon sway etc

its better than .8 onwards atm, but I'd like to see what would happen if .6/7 deviation was used in a public game :D

Better than previous versions.

Still a **** system. Still needs improvement.

i think it's reasonable compared to the last version but i always find it hard to believe a trained soldier cant shoot straight before 6 seconds or whatever it is. Also insta proning still works and hasnt been got rid of.

I like it better then previous versions.
Though deviation should be linked with what kind of movement you make.
Now you can sprint for two seconds and have the same deviation as if you would have walked with your sights up for 2 seconds.
Sprinting should (like pronediving) always result in max deviation.

Prone diving is ALOT less effective now, also what range is it hard to believe at? people always say that but never specify the range? you also realize that the closer you are the less you have to wait so waiting the full 6 seconds is rarely needed.

It's getting there, that's certain, but there are still those instances...

It will never be realistic IMO, the engine just can't do it.

But it is pretty close. I just hate how inaccurate the pistols are though... Those can be hip fired more accurately in real life than in PR. (Only when you take them out, when you stand still they are fair)

I found that its actually really damn accurate sometimes more accurate than the rifles.

Generally I like the new weapon handling. I can now run, stop, aim and hit reasonably close to my point of aim. This is what I've been waiting for in PR.

It also means you can go around a corner and still shoot with reasonable accuracy.

However, as someone else mentioned there are still 'those moments' when you're left cursing after the deviation causes you to miss some close range shot that would have been easy IRL.

Has recoil been toned down for .9 too? I was using the IDF full-auto M4 and it seemed very controllable, especially at close range. I like! :D

Overall I don't like deviation, but the current system seems to be working OK, and that's good enough for me until we get and engine which can do weapon sway.

Stu.

Love it.

Pinned down by LAV, hide behind cover.
LAV shoots at someone else, I run around corner and line him up and it is a dead LAV :)

A real person should not have problems hitting 100 yards when still but moving for a bit and then aiming and seeing the bullet deviate 15 degrees top left from target is random enough when the gun barrel is pointing at target. I bet this will all work out if the screen shakes after a few running so experianced players can try and compansate the deviation while aiming.
