[AAR] Best Round I've had in a while! - basrah NwA server 05/04/10

Post by Rudd »

this was around 1800hrs GMT

Persons of note (mentioned due to leadership or great teamwork skills)

Myself :P Rudd_Medicman (SL, Sq 1, infantry squad)
iGi Gazzthompson (SL Sq 5, infantry squad)
iGi Miles (SM, Sq 5)
PR|CATA Rex (SL, APC sq)
Megagoth (SM Sq 1)
and the ensemble

We started out with 2 infantry squads defending VCP, we set up a TOW position however we came under sustained sniper fire from the NE side of the city, the accuracy of this sniper forced us to remain low inside the hesco barricade.

This meant that the insurgents were able to launch several assaults as we weren't able to destroy all their vehicles before they reached us.

For around 20mins we defended VCP, with insurgents lobing grenades over the wall and bomb cars coming a hair's width from killing us over and over. Finally a Scimitar covered us, which made us much more secure, then the warriors spawned.

The Challenger then helpfully covered the APC's approach, however one APC ran over a mine.

We had new intel that the cache was on the south side of the city, and we needed to get there before we got too emrboiled at the VCP again.

So Gazz's squad loaded up, and the tank and warrior went, my squad suppressed any contacts we could see until the APC came back to get us.

Once we arrived at the south side of the city we saw pretty much the entire british team putting up a terrifying amount of firepower towards the city, RPG after RPG zoomed over our heads, the voices of "whoah" echoed up and down teh line on mumble.

We were trying to locate the RPGs to give us clues as to the Caches location, however this proved difficult. I'm not entirely sure what happend, however I think a lucky shot from an APC managed to take the cache out, just as we were about to advance.

Now that the area was no longer useful to us, we wanted to leave before we got mortared.

New intel appeared at the North of the city, by this time 2 more APCs were avaliable to transport troops and we were preparing to get underway.

However then SL chat was filled with the sentance "bombtruck west, coming in"

unfortunately there was not enough time to type this message to teh tank and APC, oh whom were destroyed in the explosion, the first time all round the insurgents had made much progress.

Undeterred, gazz's squad and mine loaded in to the 2 remaining APCs, and headed to teh C5 kp 3 compound west of the city, we decided to make this a staging area, and it proved to be a great defensive position as we could use the sides of the fields to defend outselves.

When we arrived it was all quiet, an APC took one of Gazz's SMs back to main to get a logistic truck, when it arrived, we advanced.

We took position inside houses that dominate teh fields of fire in the local area, which allowed us to stay in cover and destroy incoming enemies, I spotted building smoke less than 50m to my SE, and immediately requested APC close support so my squad could advance on it. True to form, Rex arrived and completely obliterated several contacts, allowing my squad to knife the firebase safely.

Meanwhile with the heat on my squad, Gazz's squad was able to search the buildings on our north flank, and destroyed the cache promptly. Since my squad were further in the city, I decided it prudent to withdraw with expediency.

We hopped in teh APC, and drove to the building compound between VCP and the city.

We stayed there covering Gazz's retreat, as he made his way back to our FB with a few smurfs and two of my own men who had become separated during the fighting.

It was fortunate my squad were covering teh APC as he was covering us, as we saw an insurgent with a british HAT kit, I promptly informed the team and wrote an angry message in chat.

We hopped back in the APC and regrouped with the rest of the team at the Firebase, new intel had poped up back at the south side of the map, so we were going to go back.

to cut a long story short, the server crashed.

- hence no pictures

But was a great round anyway :)

Thank you to all on the British team, and gg to the insurgents, we were doing well but you were making it very hard for us, especially your snipers.

Good times. One of the best rounds long time. Loved the work between 2 inf SQDs and APCs.

People are afraid of "pubbies" but all it takes are 3 good players on mumble (INF1, INF2, APC) and the round will be fun, no matter if you win or not, but you are most likely to win since 2 good operating SQDs are F-ing powerful.

Started to move in with infantry , but APCs found and killed cache from the above position so we pulled back to a different staging point for assault on new cache.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

You didn't mention my glorious assistance? For shame rudd, for shame. ;)

It was a pretty good round, I really wish people would play like that more in future. I'm so sick of playing rounds where the armour and infantry are seperate elements, let alone having multiple squads moving together.
