Ambience

Post by Opium »

It might just be me, but im pretty sure i remember ambience in woods in earlier versions of PR.

I dont hear birds, wind or general "forrest" sounds in woods anymore.
I wanna get the feel that im fighting in a dense and woody mountain area - and i dont.

I love all the sounds in PR, but there is almost no ambience at all, which is a shame.

Some maps have it some dont. We recently started to incorporate much more ambient sounds.

Hopefully you will see more in the future.

The best things are sounds like birds and stuff where you don't know if it's coming from outside or your PC. More like that please lol. Just animals in general. Cows and stuff. Maybe sheep.

It would be great to have more breaking twigs and wind in the trees sounds to mask the walking or crawling approach of enemies. I have my volume up pretty high so i can hear people on ladders or even crawling in the grass next to me. On heavier fogged maps, like possible vietnam jungle maps, it would be awesome to have the sound of a light rain or just random drops of water.

Project Farmyard? I can see people singing 'old macdonald had a farm'...

From a mappers perspective, ambient effects and sounds are rather intimidating when you first see them, as they are a bit more complicated than just radius, volume and sound.

However they do make the maps seem much more alive, so I agree they should be used as much as possible.
