How will the PR:V firebase will look like and what can you build, any suggestions ?

1. I was thinking about an constructible helicopter landing pad.

2. Barbedwire with cans attached to them.

3. A foxhole with an wooden roof with sanbags on it.

i dunno man, a 'firebase' in 'Nam was something very different to what they are in PR. e.g. a few 105 howitzers n what not.

maybe like an underground 'bunker'. well, not a bunker as such, but a kind of massive foxhole, with shit on top of it. like a CP

A nice suggestion salaminl, deployable LZs have been talked about in PR but never really happened because not really necessary, if you want a LZ near your FO you should really just place your FO near a good natrual LZ. Same could be said for PRV, would be nice if you could possibly blow down a load of trees to clear a LZ but ye, that's not going to happen without making dest trees which isn't an option :p

A more "jungley" FO might be kinda cool and maybe a few tweaks to a bunch of other deployables but not really a priority.

Well in reality in modern times a firebase is still mainly a arty position :p

a deployable tunnel can't work. A deployable must be above the terrain and can not go under the terrain. Well it can go under the terrain, but there is no way of getting though the terrain to get to it :p .

Right now.. This is what we are using.. The whole object wasn't to re-invent PR, but to work alongside PR. In order to save some initial developement time, alot of the current PR stuff is being used while we try out the concept. The first release of the mod build will probably use alot of PR models for the deployables and then if things go well. We will redo things and as time goes on.. Replace the stuff with unique stuff.

I understand, you do not want to keep the people waiting to long hehe.

About the first suggestion and the building with tower, remember we cant make them too big, since that could create building difficulties

i think the FOB for PRV should be the same as PR, But with ONE difference....

The camo net has a much longer fringe on it.... more hidden

You know, deployable LZ for PR (the current one) will be very efficient, like this, lets say on archer because it doesnt have too much good LZs so you build FB to a good spot and helipad will be needed because there i always someone that spawned in base by mistake or ressuply....

And a brown or red(ish) ground texture.

Maybe larger FOBs can be used by the American factions, but far less can be deployed, to show that it was a lot harder for the Americans to keep a presence in the jungle, while the enemy can deploy a lot more FOBs. This could be compensated by having Heavy artillery on a really short timer, I am thinking 15 min or less, while the insurgency only gets the occasional mortar strike.

Firebases were totally pre-fabricated. Firstly higher command in the engineering and construction departments of the US forces would survey maps and aerial photos and choose a suitable area for a firebase location. Then once they were happy and it was accepted they would drop a BLU-82 daisy cutter on top of the site and then fly in a engineer platoon and a battalion of grunts the engineers would rope in and cut trees down with chainsaws to get rid of any remaining bush and trees. IIRC the radius of a standard Firebase was 180 meters so they places a stake in the ground and tied a 180m rope to it to make sure the area was cleared. Then they would fly in the heavy plant usually a Case back hoe and a D7 bulldozer which would be assembled on site then they flew in shipping containers to be buried to make the TOC and FCS bunkers then a pre-fabricated 6 meter tall observation tower was flown in and places in the center then the usual 5 howitzers were flown in along with the 5 81mm mortars.

Some times some Firebases became built on an made into whole divisional bases.
I cant find the link I got the information off but i remember it well.

firebases were built to extend the range of artillery support to the troops going further out into the "bush"

Cause it's pr thats why. But the dev's said the first version problely won't include a new
firebase in the first version of PR:V.
