Norwegian Armed Forces

Cold Response is the worlds biggest winter maneuver, held in Northern Norway. This is truly the coldes military manouver in the world, with temperatures down to -45 degrees Celsius. And for the first time; parts of the manouver was held also held in Northern Sweden.

Norwegian-Swedish-Finland and several other NATO armies take part in this military maneuver.

KESK Leopard 1



Kesk stands for Kampeskadronen and is a group standing of people who had to drop out of some of the SF tests, they are a part of FTTS (Forsvarets Taktiske trenings senter) and are a quality checkers as they usually are OPFOR.

That's actually a really good documentary. Shows the MOTs "back when". Bit higher-risk now. And the KJK/MJK guys, at least, seem to be using a lot more non-standard-issue kit these days. Bloody unrecognizable as Norwegian soldiers, they are. Had a chat with a former commander of the Norwegian forces in 'Stan about the MOTs, and they're really switched-on guys. Was going to try out for MOT duty myself, but the whole thing was cancelled. And I've actually had dinner with Lt Col Berntsen and his wife once.

Got to say the Norwegians look very professional, especially the Telemark Battalion.

The CV90 is a really good looking vehicle too, whats its effectiveness like in Afghanistan? Looks like its gun is going to rape in PR.

Are most soldiers in Norway bilingual, what is the English education like over there? I heard in Sweden that English is a compulsory language for students.

In norway, all pupils have english and norwegian, and then some choose either french, german or spanish... although they don't learn that as well as english.
