[Vehicle] Sisu SA-150 "Masi" [WIP](FDF)

Hi!
First of all, this is my first post, so might as well introduce myself a bit.
I've been playing PR for a year now and enjoy every second of it. About a week ago I joined a finnish group of modders as a modeler and started creating a truck for various tasks for their finnish faction.

The first goal is to create the troop transport version with open top and benches, then we will create a logistics version with a "closed" top, as seen on the last reference picture here. And last but not least a version with NSV(50 cal.), mounted on the roof.

So, here you can see the glorious Sisu SA-150, nicknamed "Masi".

I've pretty much finished with the modeling process and would like to receive some critics based on the wireframe shots below, before moving on with the unwrapping and lods.
Currently the model has 7512 triangles in it.

Welcome Bablo to the Project Reality forums!

only thing i have to say is that we do not plan nor want a armed support truck in the mod, so you might want to leave the armed version out.

This is looking pretty good! I can't really spot any issues apart from the mirroring edges and some other redundant edges which you're probably aware of.

Bloody nice modelling mate, I can't immediately see any issues, all the faces that need to be are welded. Only thing I would say is that it may not be worthwhile having as much detail on the bottom as you have, the two cylinders on the underside both have quite a lot of sides, and have a lot of edge loops running around them, some of which will rarely be visible to the user. Then again if the poly count is deemed low enough it's probably worthwhile leaving it.

Good luck with the unwrapping, I can see it being a headache with all the thin pipes/tubes.

Thanks 162eRI, the "bumper" in the photos is actually a base for a snow plow, so I will probably leave it out of this one. :)
Also, it should be a optical illusion as far as I'm aware of.

Leusch, thanks for the heads up, I will pass on the message to the faction leader. Shame though, I thought it was a cool idea. ;)

Thanks Adriaan, yeah I actually saw few rebelling edges there that I fixed right away. :P But if you can see anything major, please point them out for me to exterminate. ;P

Thanks, AquaticPenguin, yeah the bottom is really pain in the arse. It has so many points of interest but I really wouldn't want to create too much detail down there, poly-wise. I thought that I created pretty much the minimum, just the most important assets are there.

I like the model a lot, just wish we could have the one with the big gun on the back.

I'm sure it could be done, but that version the truck should only have 2 or 3 seats for balance reasons. We'll look more into it.
The only downside i can think of is that the AA gun in question (Zu- 23-2 "Sergei") would annihilate every helicopter in PR, think of the quad AA ingame and add optics and computer controlled platform to it.

Hey Bablo.

The model overall looks pretty good to me, although I think your wheels could do with some more model detail in them as right now, they dont really have any, although I understand your planning to do the detail via normal maps, a tiny bit more model detail on the wheels could be good. Take a look at some of the other vehicles in PR and see how there wheels are made :)

Also it looks like your doors and some other items have a few unused verts, would be worth removing them to save a few tris :)

Other than that, looks pretty good to me at first glance :)

Ye, we decided long ago not to mount 50cals on our trucks as then the trucks wouldn't be used for there intended roles ingame (transport and logistics) but instead would be used more as a fire support weapon, which isn't at all realistic since the 50cal is there in r/l for defence, but wouldn't be used like that ingame and if it was, it would be a waste of a player when there are only 32 players a team.

TBH I think a version with a AA gun mounted on the back could be done, providing its pretty common in the finish forces to have it, as you could basically have an "AA Truck", with its only purpose being AA. This truck how ever would need to be used in very low numbers and only on maps where its appropriate but something to consider.

Which is much more work than making an AA gun and shoving it on the back, epically when an AA gun can be used as base defence too.

For a full ADV vehicle you want to make a vehicle that has primarily, preferentially only AA Missiles rather than AA guns so its in line with the other ADVs ingame (Stormer, Avenger, Gopher etc) and after a quick google, the Patria Pasi with the Crotale AA system mounted on it looks like the best thing for the job.

But ye, that Patria Pasi with the Crotale AA system would be far more important to make than the Zu-23-2 "Sergei" AA gun but still could be put on the list as a low priority item IMO :)

Yeah tires are pretty low poly at the moment, I might add some more detail to them if the normals doesn't cut it.

Yeah I totally agree that it would increase the misuse possibilities. I've imagined in my mind the AA-version of this truck as a plain AA, with only two or three spots for the crew.

We'll see what the faction lead decides about the AA and go on with that choice. The logistics version is next anyway, so it doesn't really affect my work here.

(Moved to Modelling & Animations) I am currently UV mapping this vehicle, still need to do 1st person mesh for the cockpit before i can UV that part.

I think the blue needs to be much darker, towards black almost? I think most colors are a bit too bright :p Pattern seems good though!

Good work, I hope to see this finish with the rest of the faction :)
