[AAR] SPG-9 awesomeness on the 128 server

Post by Rudd »

Last night on the 128 SISU server we had a good seeding round on Kokan.

Unfortunately the US forces were rather uninspiring, however when they did show a spark of aggression or teamwork we quickly put them back in their place with what weapons we had to hand.

And my favourite weapon that round was the deployable SPG-9 anti tank position.

the Americans were pushing south on teh west side of the river, a squad on foot backed up by 3 humvees, one of which was armed with teh CROWS.

They were opposed by a rag tag group of Talibs, hiding in buildings but slowly being prised out with grenades.

My squad was accross the river, without any scoped weapons and could do nothing as our friends were slowly being pulverised.

but then, I remembered the SPG-9

I had used it before, however I had never managed to be effective with it.

it seemed to lob my fire over my enemies heads, it turned too slow...it was too exposed.

But today, the SPG-9 was our salvation.

The distance to target was 400m, after a ranging shot I found that I would be bang on target if I used the 3rd chevron down.

Fortunately the CROWS humvee was too busy with southern targets, and my first attempt killed hit with a HEAT round, the next two humvees died soon after, using my remaining FRAG ammunition I first killed an AR and rifleman, before firing at the retreating unmounted American squad.

A satisfactory outcome, fearing the Kiowa would soon come for us we used an American incendiary to destroy the SPG and relocate south to block one of the open roads to our cache.

So, the SPG-9 is simply a matter of range finding, practice and knowing the WSAD keys allow you a very wide range of vision. (lots of people think you can only use the mouse)

That's awesome man, spgs are some pretty deadly weapons. I got my first arty ied kill yesterday hitting a British apc as it was crossing the bridge in front of the refinery in Basra. My squad crossed the bridge to the island with a technical killing the troops and destroying their fob and I guess the the troops apparently returned in their apc for some vengeance only to be taken out BOOM lol.

Back in the day, when Jaymz actually played, the man was a pro with the SPG-9.
