Charity Single & Rememberance Day 2009

Post by Gaz »

Today we are pleased to bring you some news of a charity single which has been recently released in support of British Armed Forces injured whilst on duty. The single is called 'Fighting Man', and has been released by the band 'Morpheus Rising' in support of Help for Heroes (Registered Charity No. 1120920) and the Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal (Registered Charity No. 219279).

- Fighting Man

The single, aptly titled 'Fighting Man', can be purchased for between £0.79-£3.89 GBP, depending on media, from a number of sources. You can purchase a limited edition CD from Amazon (due back in stock soon!), or download the song from iTunes, Amazon, HMV, Ditto or via SMS payment from your mobile phone. The song can be previewed below, as well as the soundbytes available on the various resellers' stores.

- Rememberance Day 2009

The song is especially fitting during this period because as many will already be aware, 11th November is Remembrance Day, the day we commemorate the sacrifices made by those in conflicts past and present, to preserve the freedom which we take for granted every day. So although Project Reality is just a game, let us not forget the men and women who have fought in the past, and those on the front lines today. We ask that you pay your respects with 2 minutes of silence on Wednesday, at 11am PR Time.

- Congratulations

Finally, the PR Team wishes to convey its congratulations to [R-DEV]ballard_44 and his wife. They recently celebrated the birth of their first child, a baby boy named Jackson. We wish you and your new family all the best! We look forward to the tales of derring do, changing....well, doo.

Lest we forget the dead, the wounded and those otherwise affected by war on all fronts, and all sides.

Congrats to Ballard :) Nice to think of new life on this day also.

May we always remember the fallen.

Congratulations Ballard, I wish you, your lady wife and your little fella all the best for the future.

The poppy's significance to Remembrance Day is a result of Canadian military physician John McCrae's poem In Flanders Fields. The poppy emblem was chosen because of the poppies that bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their red colour an appropriate symbol for the bloodshed of trench warfare. An American YMCA Overseas War Secretaries employee, Moina Michael, was inspired to make 25 silk poppies based on McCrae's poem, which she distributed to attendees of the YMCA Overseas War Secretaries' Conference.[25] She then made an effort to have the poppy adopted as a national symbol of remembrance, and succeeded in having the National American Legion Conference adopt it two years later. At this conference, a Frenchwoman, Anna E. Guérin, was inspired to introduce the widely used artificial poppies given out today. In 1921 she sent her poppy sellers to London, England, where they were adopted by Field Marshall Douglas Haig, a founder of the Royal British Legion, as well as by veterans' groups in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

A small number of people choose to wear white poppies, which they claim emphasises a desire for peaceful alternatives to military action. Some people regard this as being offensive.

The Royal Canadian Legion suggests that poppies be worn on the left lapel, or as close to the heart as possible.

Yeah, today's Veterans Day/Remembrance Day.
Shout out to my brother in Iraq, 82nd Airborne

As I said on his facebook, I'm not sure where one draws the line between rookie and Veteran, but I'd say he's already a veteran of the days behind him over there.

Been wearing his shirt today.

[also, check out his superman belt ;) ]

My thoughts go out to all who served in the past, who are currently serving, and will serve in the future.
