Great job CodeRedFox. I think you're probably designing the most epic map for PR. So what's the chances of getting some man sized boats for the map?

I know, that's a lot of guns. Could probably cut it down to 2 guns and a driver. An M2 out the front and an M249 out the back. You could have 2 of them on the map, and both be controlled by a squad to do some boat on boat warfare or be an area denial assest to prevent OPFOR from leaving or entering the area being attacked.

Yeah, that looks very nice, but i think it does not vary from the boat in vBF2 too much. Seems to me that the only difference is in that rear MG . What I am expecting on this map is the boat for pirates. Maybe something like this?darkside12 wrote:Great job CodeRedFox. I think you're probably designing the most epic map for PR. Well, the difference is that it has a .50 MG in the front. The one in the pic has an M134, but that's too much ownage. I figure it could drop all troop carrying capabilities, so that whoever is using it can focus on just it's purpose instead of having to ferry troops bitching on the shore.lucky.BOY wrote:Yeah, that looks very nice, but i think it does not vary from the boat in vBF2 too much. Most are normally armed with: 1 twin .50 in the front, 2 M240's off the sides, and 1 .50 off of the back. Some carry Mk19s also. But that's pretty ridiculous for what the BLUFOR will be fighting, as I think it's going to be pretty lopsided. Then again, I could be wrong.

two miniguns on a light assault boat would be too much I guess

in an emergency you could put them on the back for extra propulsion!Wakain wrote:two miniguns on a light assault boat would be too much I guess

Re: [Map] Eyl Somalia (A pirate influenced map)
Another follow up to some questions.
Boats: The closer I get to finishing this map we (PR) should be getting some new boats. Not allot, just a few older speed boats and large fishing boats (might be controllable) which should be interchangeable on maps. But thats still a task the needs to be done. For the Blufor the current black boats will be the weapon of choice.
BLUFOR and OPFOR factions:
Nether have been chosen and wont until I get closer to the final. I would love a Somalian insurgency but I'm relying on other to do something like this because it might not be worth a new factions if its not on any other maps. Factions in PR get tossed back and forth all the time and will be decided way later.

Re: [Map] Eyl Somalia (A pirate influenced map)
Hi,
I actually found PR before I owned BF2 due to this thread. Was looking up info on the situation around Eyl when a friend was on a ship passing through the zone.
I bought BF2 because of this map, I'm really been waiting patiently for the release of this map.
At this point the Devs have obviously digested large amounts of background material and parsed it into a playable BF2 PR map. For the rest of us, there is this video shot on location by a Canadian-Puntlander who visited Eyl to see his relatives:
YouTube - Eyl Somalia Heading To the Beach Where The Somali Pirates Hang Out
And another one,,, unknown origins:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ntVpuVvBg
This is literally the footpath from the small white boats on the beach going up to the town... where this map took it's exact location from, at to what I have guessed using GoogleEarth to pinpoint the geographic location you selected to model.
A few things, notice the outcroppings, notice the graffiti, notice the old concrete rubble, and the tough part, notice the arid climate vegetation...
Notice they don't have donkeys or horses, you need taller stables attached to the brick huts.
IMHO, use the Insurgents faction kit models, but add an RPG kit, and the Puntlanders need at a minimum the Militia faction Command Officer abilities. IRL these guys have extensive open air radio networks.
It's a strange map though, the Puntland pirates are a bunch of dumb arsed hooligans, mostly kids or young men with no educatoin, without any ideology besides get rich or die trying.
Also, only 1 out of approximately 30 confrontations between pirates and Navy escorts result in gun fire. If this was authentic, we'd be armed with Dentist drills, Doctors scrubs, mess hall ladles, and barber's scissors. That's what the pirates have been on the receiving end of since Obama took office.

Well, if s1 makes Somalian, than thay can be applied also to Ramiel, which was renamed from Mogadishu just bc there was no Somalians... so, making Somalians isn't bad idea. S1 can at least give the current insurgents faction the faces of black soldiers from USMC and we'll have nice placeholder.

Also why wouldnt this map be listed for the ARF anyway?

Thank LITOralis.nMd for the youtube link. These are always helpful!
The only major change will be the the city of Eyl is not in the map. But the village next to the beach will be. Kinda hard to explain but should really concern the players.

not trying to cause any trouble on this or take it off topic but alot of them are forced into this because they cant fish.LITOralis.nMd wrote: It's a strange map though, the Puntland pirates are a bunch of dumb arsed hooligans, mostly kids or young men with no educatoin, without any ideology besides get rich or die trying.
the water around their fishing villages is polluted and they have to got atleast 4-7 miles out just to see fish in some area, and if they go out pirates take what money they have strand them in the sea making fishing inexcessable forcing them to go into piracy to put food on the table for their familys.
