No tail rotor
Put simply, any tricks known for changing a helicopter's heading when the tail rotor is out? (Even if it involves landing!)

Re: No tail rotor
You roll and pitch back, like in a plane. Tail rotor in PR controls the rudder, and rudder lets you change heading mostly on slow speeds and hovers. So if its out you need speed to change heading. You can't roll on a hover to change heading

I find there's choppers that are more rudder-dependent, such as the little bird.
On a Blackhawk I'm always banking to change heading vice using the rudder, although it's always some combination of the two.

DONT DIE!! LOL Just use roll to guide your way back to base, though this might be easier with a joystick do you use a mouse/keyboard?

Re: No tail rotor
Just have to say wow!
I lost my tail rotor once.. I died.
Was one of my first times trying this mod, got a chopper on a training server, and hit a tree. Started spinning, and pretty much gave up =P
Had no idea that could happen, so I was like 'WTF?!?!? THIS IS SO COOL!! *dead*
How mutch speed do you need to keep it stabile then?
And what about when you are going to land.. Do you just hit the ground at 200 kph?

Re: No tail rotor
Like it was said before, you have to pitch the helicopter to turn. Instead of hovering, you have to keep some speed and bank to turn until you can line up perfect with the landing pad. Then, bring it down like you normally would, but keep it slow and steady.
mockingbird, I think you had a completely different type of rotor failure, I think they are talking about the loss of rudder control, you just went all out crash time.

Actually had this happen to me today (the top one), and had no problem flying it at all. Just need some speed, tilt, pull back, correct tilt.TomDackery wrote:Like it was said before, you have to pitch the helicopter to turn. Maybe, it was going all *beep beep beep* like it does every time you're about to die, but still, might happen without causing critical damage to the heli itself. After all, it made it to the ground at least, so it wasn't instant, and i managed to keep it in the air for a few sec... Think that in theory it would be possible to make it back.. But JUST in theory...

Re: No tail rotor
Thanks, all. Question was asked because I ended up with a tail-rotor out at the north-west end of Korengal with the littlebird pointed.. north-west. Tried to fly backwards and sideways back to camp murphy but didn't manage to get out alive.

Yeah, you lose the rotor, you need some speed. I find it's nearly a death sentence if you're in a hot area and a lucky shot from AA cripples the tail rotor, 'specially if circle-strafing. Bad form to do that around AA, but any weapon can do that..
Went into the same spin mockingbird mentioned on PRSP muttrah 64 yesterday.. minus the tree. APC got one in it with its cannon as i was on my way out, saw fotress-city-dock-sky-fortress-lightpole. Pretty sure I hit the lightpole.

Re: No tail rotor
I have had it happen many times, the only way to get out alive and back to base is get a solid speed that you tail rotor doesn't have any effect on and stay going back to base, don't try to avoid AA, or enemies, nothing just fly over them as fast as you can. I have flown over huge armored units on Kashan at 15 meters and they couldn't do a thing to me.
Once your tail rotor is gone, the highs and low of the map are your best friend. Once u get back to main slow your helicopter down alot and attempt to land it like a plane on a runway or rough land it around the main.
