The dev who has the files is currently on LOA. So please be patient :) And the current manual suffices more then enough to learn all the things needed to know. But indeed it could use updating on some numbers and certain details.

What is that small bar in the lower right corner that slowly fills up when you hold Q?

It's the in-game substitube of checking your ammo. It isn't precise, only gives you an idea of how many bullets are left in the mag.

As AD says its a non-specific ammo count, I believe the rationale is that soldiers can pretty much tell if their mag is empty/full by it's weight :) (although I think the G36 series is rather unique in how it uses a transparent mag, so technically their check should be accurate)

G36 has a more accurate indicator and is faster to check ammo (dont have to hold Q that long). Same goes for other weapons with open magazine such as belt/box fed weapons

This also applies to HK 417 too? They use the similar material to G36 mags.

How long does it take for ammo indicator to show up for regular rifles?

The models in game dont have transparent magazines i think. I checked the files and the french HK417 is considered closed and the dutch open. I guess the dutch really come from the future ;)

3 seconds for closed magazines and 1.5 seconds for open ones. Internal magazines (shotgun, sks...) cant be checked at all.

I got a faction being done by me and a couple friends along with some maps.

Should I go ahead and post the thread up in Community modding or contact someone beforehand?

Wow, that's awesome, I had no idea that something like that existed in PR, thanks for clearing it up :)

Why do all the maps seem to be moving towards CQB? The nice forest in the southern part of Vadso was changed to a charlie foxtrot of bushes leading to literal bush warfare, Shijia and Vadso look like they have both had the view distances decreased, Black Gold got mountains.

Nothing has changed on Shijia Valley.

As for Vadso, the mapper had always wanted bushes because that's how the area is in real life (scrub brush)... but I agree he might have overdone it. It's trial and error to protect infantry on 4km maps.

Black gold got more than mountains. I was almost completely re-done.

not sure why you'd call black gold CQB tbh though, it's got a lovely mix of gameplay, long range righting, combined arms, CQB city and industrial fighting...it's got everything which is why it's so popular imo.

I did a bit of searching the forums and couldn't find a place to post this question but this place seems to be the most fitting and I apologize in advance if there is an answer to this already and my searching didn't turn it up.

I have been doing software development for about 20 years, 10 years professionally. I have a MS in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis and I'm very good at debugging and optimizing code. I've been able to take our schedule engine at work and rewrite the entire thing to get the time to generate a schedule down from 2 hours to less than 2 minutes. The software generates the schedules for the USGS / NASA LANDSAT program. This is only one of my accomplishments (this year) and I can provide a resume if needed or desired.

I've been playing PR since 2007 but I never thought about trying to help out with development of PR until I heard about PR2. I also took a bit of time off from 2009-2013. Some people may know me on there, "]CIA[ KoryP". Anyhow, how can I help out with development? I am a near-expert in both C++ and Java, but I'm guessing the former is mostly used for PR. Regardless of that, I also do a lot of scripting and like I said above, I'm really good at debugging and optimizing both Windows and Linux. Oh, I don't have much DirectX experience, only a few projects and maybe less than 2 years total but I have quite a bit of OpenGL / OpenGL ES experience perhaps 4 years total.

Let me know how I can start helping out on PR. I can provide any references and whatever anyone would need to verify everything I have said above. I am expecting this to be a volunteer gig because I feel that I need to contribute some of my expertise back to PR. I've taken a lot and haven't given back much...
Thanks,
Kory

Is there a possibility to bring back the old burning sands map and layout (including Arar village, crash site, and weapons research facility)? I mean as a addition to the current layout.

Here the old burning sands

A lot of players would appreciate it
