Need some help!!!

Hey guys! I know it's too stupid asking this, but I am too new to this game and have no idea about this! So can anybody explain me elaborately all the possible ways to differentiate between an enemy and a friend. I mean to say how to understand one is my enemy or ally.
I too had another small doubt...
I generally play offline coop and whenever I start the game and choose my kits, then I am never ever able to select the officer kits (first 2 in the list) and a message comes on my map screen beside which generally says that I am not a commander probably! Can anyone say me how to fix it...
I know all these are stupid questions but any help is appreciated...

Look at the player model; camo patterns, helmets, armbands(remember good guys always wear red armbands), etc. Look at the primary weapon. Most factions have unique primaries. Some teams share weaponry too. Mostly western/nato teams with their service standard arms like; machine guns, rockets launchers, etc. Other teams have AK type weapon families, so it's much trickier. Another thing is sound. Most rifles sound very different. Both the firing sound and the sound of the action cycling. If you have your sound turned up to max, you can even hear the different reload sounds for each weapon/family of weapons. Vehicles and their engine sounds are another way to tell.

But all that advice goes out the window on kafr halab and zakho, when it's FSA vs Insurgents. Both teams use very similar equipment. They have mostly the same guns, vehicles, player models, etc. Only difference being in the headwear, camo and some weapons/vehicles. Both teams have techies and vans that sound nearly identical. God I love the shitstorm on those maps.

Officer kit is only available for when you are the Squadleader of a squad (or the commander of the team). For all other players this kit is blocked. PR focuses on specific roles, for example you require a crewman kit to drive/gun most advanced/armored vehicles.

For squad leader (SL), there are two options:

1) Make a new squad (bottom of the squad menu)
2) Join a squad and wait until the message: do you want to become squad leader (PAGE UP to accept)? appears, then press PAGE UP


For Commander:
Click on the apply buttom at the top of the Squad screen, and press PAGE UP when the message appears that you've been selected for commander.
