To honour Finland's Independence Day,
we present to you, the FDF Highlight reel #2
We strongly encourage you to listen to one of the finest pieces of one of our finest composers while you read on.
Jean Sibelius - Finlandia Op.26:
Albeit our work has mostly remained behind the scenes so far, a lot of progression has been, and continues to be made.
The main purpose of this highlight - of course - is to summarize some of the areas where we've progressed and generally give an idea of what we've been doing lately. More detailed and techie stuff will be seen in relevant WIP threads.
Faction concept in a nutshell
The Finnish Defence Forces utilizes both modern high-tech and outdated weaponry and vehicles.
The geopolitical situation of Finland between Russia and the West puts it in an interesting situation - what comes to PR gameplay that is.
As opposed to the many conventional factions PR has, the FDF would be a semi-conventional faction fighting mostly defensive battles and employing guerilla tactics when needed.
The Finnish Soldier [WIP]
Officer
Rifleman
Rifleman Specialist
Medic
Engineer
Some eye candy for you... More to come in a WIP thread later.
Patria AMV [WIP]
Here's our very own Patria AMV model with new unforeseen textures:
This bad boy seems to be ready for export soon - but not before getting a CROWS installed.
Leopard 2A4 [WIP]
She's got a new and nice fur coat too and looking forward to get exported ...
CV9030 FIN [WIP]
This baby is going for Norwegian Faction too... more to come soon in a WIP thread
Sako TRG-42 [WIP]
A new model of a piece of world's finest rifle craftmanship from Sako -made in Finland with pride.
Knife (SP05 "Sissipuukko") [WIP]
This functional close combat tool has now a new skin. You can see similar but more beautiful and ornated ones especially at Ostrobothnia (Pohjamaa), but watch your manners there not to get one between your ribs
Statics [WIP]
Some stuff from splatters' static and texture factory to be used in maps to come.
Moreover thanks to the community and everyone contributing to this project.

Please no renders against black backgrounds.
Better to just take screenshots of max/maya viewports, with settings similar to what BF2 shaders look like.
There are plenty of CGFX shaders that can help out with that.
Black background hides half the detail.
Great stuff otherwise! Looking forward to playing!

We're quite aware of that, and there are many screenshots in other threads where you can see all the detail on the soldiers. The black background (as well as the reflection) only serves artistic purposes here; to look cool
Thanks for the feedback!

Looks great!
This is what people need to do when they want a faction ingame, instead of just asking around for help, actually going and making things happen. Well done.

Looks great, I can see this becoming a pr faction in the future. Great texture work, also the renders with the black background makes kind of hard to see. My suggestion would be use a dark grey or a gradient. Background.

Will you guys be getting a subforum?

by dtacs
No more potential BLUFOR factions are getting subforums, only OPFOR are getting accepted. You never know though, this has more oomph behind it than the Czech faction for example.

excellent showcase, interesting to see that so many kits use their dustglasses(facial dustprotection... how are those damn things called?). looking forward to updated winterskins

you might have noticed the Czech comfac has lost it's subforum more than a year ago because of lack of progress.

The rankpatches on the chests look very good.
Hope rank patches could be applied to more factions.

The rank patches are not in the final (player)texture, I'm afraid. They would have to be on the officer kit geometry and the texture artist was misinformed about the look of the patches. IRL the patch is much smaller and it's black.

Road to Helsinki was an (very)early stage map concept by a short term team member, it's no longer being worked on. Fixed that part of the design plan.
Rajantie is waiting for new custom statics and vegetation models (Northern European trees mainly).
Thank you for the input

Should just leave the Rank insignia off the player texture, mainly because many player model characters will be sharing.

Maybe we'll have our own little add-on like Project Normandy if we're never granted an official faction status
