PROBLEM INSTALLING STANDALONE PRBF

Post by LongBowApache »

I went to a free torrent and downloaded the standalone install. Not sure if I did the rest correctly. I was able to download game and register a new pr account but when I press play it takes me back to desk top. I have alienware x51 I just bought 1 day ago.

1: Click "Downloads" on top of this page. It's between "Features" and "Media".

2: Click Battlefield 2 Mod, then "Download Now" under "PR:BF2 v1.3.5 Full". If you have a torrent-software ie. uTorrent or BitTorrent you can choose the torrent download. This is usually faster. If you don't have a torrent-software you can choose to download from Poland or Germany.

3: If you have a torrent-software I'm assuming you're familiar with how it works. The torrent will be added, and you'll have to wait for it to be downloaded before opening the folder it's in. Same goes for non-torrent download, really.

4: Okay, it has finished downloading. You can go two ways: Mount the image (.iso) file using Daemon Tools or a smiliar software, or use 7-zip/WinRAR to extract the content into a a new folder (name it 'PR install' or something like that). To do so right-click the .iso, "Extract files..." and select the folder you've created. If you're using Daemon Tools, simply double-click the image and the autorun should start. If you've used 7-zip or WinRAR you'll have to go into the folder you created and double-click the setup.exe, at least I think that's what it's called.

5: A small window will open, and you'll have a few options. You want to install the game, so click "Install". Let the installer do its thing, make sure to install it on the drive you want it to be.

6: After the installation is complete you're gonna want to start the PR Launcher. I'm assuming you haven't made an account after GameSpy shut down the BF2 server, so you'll have to make a new one.

7: After you have logged in hold the mouse over "PLAY", and click the arrow that appears on the right hand side of it. From there you click "Check for Updates". Let it update.

8: Go through your options. Here you can change video and graphics settings, and some other stuff. Also check out the PR Mumble tab, where you can rebind the default push-to-talk buttons to something a bit more convenient if that's something you're interested in. Personally I have 'F' as squad chat and 'V' as local, meaning I've removed some keys from the in-game options.

That should be it, really. If something's unclear go ahead and ask, I'll try to help you out more.
