The Human Shield

Post by Jimmy_Smack »

Earlier this evening I was playing on Tactical Gamers password night on Desert Storm. The game was slowly getting worse and worse as the USMC began pushing the Insurgents back to the Canyon CP. At the time the wall to the canyon had just been blown and was being repaired when one of our players had the idea to line the Civilians up on our side of the wall so when the US blows the wall they will kill all of the Civies and we will gain tickets back. At the time it was about 130 to 331 in the USMC's favor.
Image
^Gradually, people started buying into this idea and what started out as 5 civies against the wall turned into...
Image
10 Civies against the wall.

The US team blew the wall twice bringing us up to 342 tickets to 308 our favor.

In the end many players were very annoyed with this tactic but I think hey, they're insurgents.

This happenend exactly yesterday on the TG server... Both of the team's tickets kept rising/falling from doing certain team actions, much like this. It's a no wonder this map is being pulled out of PR...

Yeah, at the end, USMC were killing the civis on purpose, prolonging that map. It was down to 10 with the sirens wailing and then within 10 minutes, it had gone up by 120 tickets :-(

I shot a few of you civilians by the wall with my AT-4... needless to say, I waited about three and a half minutes to respawn.

Hell at best its a tactic at worst its annoying

I'm pretty sure thats the purpose of insurgents, to irritate, harass and in general piss you off.

Yeah that's the one tactic I hate the most on that server.

Its not necessarily the server but the map. Tactical Gamers is a great server.

Yea its a silly tactic, this map as well as Raid of Moskyie is being removed as they dont fit the rest of the maps in v0.6

I think helmand also needs to be changed cause it doesnt play too well with insurgents, would be nice to get the insurgency game mode on that map

Yeah, I was there, except on the US side. It was ridicules. I just grabbed a M14 and started picking off insurgents through the mass of civilians. I got one between the legs of a civy. Then I got kicked for a supporting member.

To solve the ticket problems prolonging the game, I qoute myself from the tester forums:
'[R-PUB wrote:GeZe']Also, on insurgent maps, there is a problem where people shoot civilians, and civilians get knifed a lot. One game on helmand, an hour into the game both sides had more tickets from when they started. This is becuase killing/knifing adds tickets, not subtracts. But if it subracted, games would end too quickly. I would recommend making so it alternates between adding tickets to the other team, and subtracting from your own team and vice versa for capturing civilians. This way, the effect is the same, but it doesn't effect the game time.

OK...so the civilians were a often amusing but mostly irritating diversion/experiment to the ever expanding parameters of PR game-play. Now don't you think it's about time to ditch those wild and crazy "joggers" and get back to war-gaming again?

Well, the problems on that map seem to be getting better, now that people have learned about the existence of The Ridge.

I really despise that "tactic" (and I use the word loosely) on Desert storm. It can actually be a good map but as soon as you get to Canyon if people start doing the Civy stack on the gate the game just degrades.

I didn't notice the ticket issues during betas but last night I played DS and thought for sure the US was going to loose, we had half the tickets the insurgents did, then a little while later were all tied up again.
