[List] Mortar stories!

Post by blues&royalsdylan »

Tell all about your experiences with using the mortar, fire support from mortar, or taking fire from mortar :P

The other night, on Fool's road. On the Brit's side, we had captured all flags, except the fortress a hundred or so metres south-east of Militia's mainbase. The fortress was obviously occupied by the enemy, and possibly had defences up.

Our SL ordered a fire mission of 6 rounds of mortar - I'd like to add, we were 40 metres from the fortress, laying down on the hill. Our plan was to wait for 6 rounds, then 3 rounds of smoke to cover us as we charged in. Well, the mortars went off - the disorientation kicked in, but none of us were hurt. The 6 rounds of HE were completed and the smoke was being fired. 30 seconds later, smoke filled the hills, and as we charged in. We found nothing but dead Militia.

We then took up defensive positions and defending the fortress until we had kept it, luckily for us, mortars must have killed atleast 9 enemy, since the waves of militia were small.

I love the mortar!

loving mortars, been using them quite a lot lately. it does take a lot of coordination, and can eat up a considerable number of guys to use them effectively. had a good one recently our IFSW section was under counter fire but we had placed our positions on the lee of the eastern ridge at Kashan, most incoming rounds fell short on the top of the ridge or fell behind us down the ridge and did not effect us, this was kinda scary as i was running ammo up and down the ridge to keep our tubes supplied while this was happening. if they had used AB over us effectively it would have wiped us out.

That sounds epic, I'm yet to play Kashan desert on 0.975 - but when I do, all I wanna do is mortar. It's unexplainably (fake word, i know) exciting.

Yesterday I played on the =Merk= server, and well.. let's just say it was the first time I fully experienced the devastating power of this asset. The map was Asad Khal, and despite the superior weaponry (we were in the IDF team) we got raped hard... :D It felt as if there were "mortar magnets" attached to our helmets or something... After capping & quickly losing South City and the Mansion to Hamas infantry, we tried to make several counterattacks - needless to say, these attempts ended with total failure. As soon as we got out of the main and started pushing forward, the shells started falling like rain - and it was damn accurate, almost every single bomb hit & killed at least one of our troops! We had no idea where their spotters were hiding - it was nigh impossible to leave the main anyway no matter how hard we tried. Finding and eliminating them would've been extremely difficult under such circumstances.

Mortar-guys had around 50 kills at the end of the round, which, I guess, proves the effectiveness of this asset. A deadly weapon in the right hands (with the support of spotters ofc). :)

Me and my clanmate were stuck in alkomin on iron eagle. There were no fobs nearby and no other friendlies there so we were laying low waiting for reinforcements. While we were laying in a field we noticed there was an enemy squad set up in a firing line above us so we called mortars on ourselves and got the hell out. We weren't there to spot but the enemy fire certainly stopped! :)

I haven't played PR for a while due to a broken mic and the lack of money after all those crazy days. But I've learnt one thing before I stopped playing: ask how many rounds your mates will shoot and count them, otherwise you'll get killed by your own mortar shells.

it was a game on Al Barash, and my SQ was mortars for insurgents. we had been 50-60 mins into the battle. the Blufor was just steam rolling us. The were under some guidance spell of some commander. but they could not find our mortars. (My secret mortar area will not be revealed) and we had been raining hell on them since the beginning of the round. I was out on recon, and my SQ ran mortars and supply. Me and my SQ mate pull up on the enemy convoy of at least 3/4 of the team. Tank, Scim, Warriors, 5 jeeps, and 2 trans logis. they were setting up an fob. and here was our chance to take them out. I had all my Ammo guys be ready to just give the mortars pits ammo, we were about to just rain a hell storm on them. i order them to keep firing till all the ammo boxes were gone. the mortars fire at the same time, and moved left and right to spread the splash.

1st round of savos destroys all light vehicles, Men start running for cover.

2ed round of savos tracks the tank and the scim.

3er round of savos finish of the tank and scim and rest of troops.

The to warriors made it out alive, but sadly we had an insurgent Tank "Normal car with ALL RPG'S out the window" came up behind them and blasted them. 5 mins later e have around 3 full SQs heading in our mortar Position we Quickly destroy Mortars pits, Hideout, and ammo boxes to look like we were never there. After all that they won by calling in Area attack on cache. :-|
