I was leading my squad up the far western part of the map to reach a mountain so I could do some recon of the area, and try to figure out a cache location. On the way there, a new cache location was uncovered, and would soon lead to the most epic fire fight of my PR life... The insurgents had blocked the road by knocking down the rocks, so we grappled onto the ledge that is right above the road, and proceeded toward the cache location that was deep behind the mountain range.
As soon as we started climbing the mountain to get a good view, we started taking potshots, at first. I set a rally in a depression so it was covered, and ordered my AR to take up a position to overwatch. As soon as he opened up a few rounds, all hell broke loose. Constant RPGs, AK fire, and PKMs rained down on us as we, a single squad, tried to hold our ground. Amidst the suppression, I was able to spot where the RPG was coming from, it was the small hut about 200m away, with a PKM lying right next to it. Seeing as my Grenadier was KIA, I ordered my squad to put suppressing fire on it. ]DR[ whattheh3ll took the initiative to sprint up to the closest compound. Sadly, I didn't notice his absence until he said over VOIP "Cache on me".
At this point, we realized there were 2 caches, and we were still pinned in one position. I ordered a fall back to regroup, set a new Rally Point, and think about our next plan of action. My plan was to smoke out the road, make it to the compound, set a base of fire, and have the infantry move in to take the hut. The smoke covered our movement well enough that we didn't take any fire in the open ground on the way to the former cache compound. In fact, there wasn't any shooting going on at all, it was all just really too quiet. I was the first to arrive at the hut, and immediately sprinted off to the side, as I noticed a PKM guarding the door and an RPG loading up ammo. I ran behind the hut as the rest of my squad came up, still 50m behind. I turned around to find the RPG following me, so I put a 3rnd burst into him, saving my soul from another perishing experience. My squad member arrived in time to find the hut empty, and he promptly destroyed the cache (and himself, since he never ran away). The PKM was found on the other side of the hut, dead.
So, my squad of 6 men singlehandedly took out 2 caches, with minor losses (most of which were dealt with by the medic). At the end, I don't think a single one of us had more than 3 mags of ammo left. After pulling out, we discovered that ANOTHER cache had spawned behind the mountain range, but we were already to the river by then.
